This monday I have to get 12 teeth pulled because of a accident I was in and my jaw got all messed up and broke a lot of teeth, so at this point its better to take them out because lately I have been in a LOT of pain, and then put implants in there. But they want to knock me out. Which I never have done before.

Anyone here been knocked out before, anything to worry about? Its a lot of work they have to do,so my body will be stressed and in pain, so will it even work to knock me out because of the pain?

Just wondering others experiences

:)

Okay,

First off, that's sad to hear about your teeth. I hope your doing fine besides that.

I had a wisdom tooth pulled out a while back.

I too never went under general anesthetic.

But it was really good. I had the IV drip and laughing gas. Every thing seems to go by really slowly as you fade out and then you are gone. You sometimes hear voices like saying stuff, but you cant make it out and frankly you dont care.

I was basically at a point fluctuating just near sleep.

Now if they are pulling out 12, they are definitely going to knock you out good. Just relax when going in. Calm down and the drugs should work fine.

I have never actually been "knocked out" as you put it, medically anyway lol. What i can say is they wouldn't do it if they didn't know you weren't going to feel anything. Once you're out, you're out, and no amount of pain (or certainly not at the levels you would experience having teeth pulled out) will wake you up from that.

Many people have things like this done every day, and they wouldn't do it if they knew you could feel anything. Consider yourself lucky lol, i had a similar thing (on a much smaller scale, only 3/4 teeth) when i was younger (obviously milk teeth), but they would only numb my mouth for some reason. I can tell you from that experience and frmo one I've had of late (i have had a lot of fillings), having your mouth numbed does not work as well as it should lol.

Anyway don't worry about it, remember you'll be knocked out so next thing you know you'll be up and about and you wont know whats happened :yell:

Good luck :D

Oh here's a tip I read.

Not sure if it actually works, but I tried it and it seemed fine (though mine was more minor).

Eat a ton of pineapple the day before the surgery. Pineapple is a natural antiinflammatory.

be glad your going to get knocked out...i had 7 taken out at once without an anaethsetic and i was practically in tears - even with the freeze it still hurt like hell and i would have given anything not to feel it

I've been "knocked out" for dental surgery as a kid.. there was absolutely no sensation of the passage of time.. I got drowsy and then "woke up" and the dentist was finished. At worst, you might experience some nausea and tenderness afterward.

Been "knocked out" for surgery to a broken nose...like Dave said. It's nothing to worry about. You get drowsy...they do what they do....you slowly wake up a while after your procedure and that's that. It's nothing to be too afraid of.

Good luck with your surgery...you'll be fine. Just follow doctors orders afterwards and you shouldn't be in too much pain during your recovery.

Best...

You will be fine.
General anesthetics are used in millions world-wide every year and is one specialty of medicine with very significant improvements in safety / outcome. Most attention is paid to patient comfort, pain, nausea and other measures of satisfaction these days.
You will get a breathing tube in your nose for this type of procedure and it will be a little sore.
Good Luck.

I haven't been to any major operation before. I think there's nothing you should worry about. Trust your doctors... they know best. :)

knocked out depends on the method they use either way it will be a nervewracking experience the last time when i was a kid the effects were more noticible. i woke up days later physically with my hands up in the air trying to catch a dodgeball while sleeping .
when you first wake up everything will be sort of a blurry picture , then some time will pass and hopefully you wont feel any pain but i gather you will.
but then again maybe youll be just fine just take a deep breath count back from 100 and relax.

Wow. I guess it's different for something near your stomach. When I had surgery on my foot last year, the first thing I did when I woke up was ask for a cheeseburger.

Actually, my appendix burst during surgery.. I had to spend the next 6 weeks recuperating.. they drained the poisons out thru a tube in my stomach and the antibiotics they IV'ed into me were so strong they actually burned the skin around the injection point. (I was only in the hospital a week, but it was 6 weeks before I could return to work).

How did the antibiotics manage to burn the skin around the spot you were injected? What could possibly be in the antibiotics that would cause something like that to happen?
