So, is it worth creating them for the purpose of getting more traffic? or should i avoid it. I want hav much content for the subdomain so mostly for SEO if indeed it benefits.

Also, i want to make my site in spanish. is it better to do a subdomain a folder containing spanish files or all on the root but file names i add say _es.html ?

I've not heard of seo benefits of subdomains, but regarding internationalization (language sites), a common way of doing this is sub folders e.g.

site.com/en/
site.com/de/
site.com/es/

I prefer, and I think ta¡hat´s better for Search engine optimization, to do this:

en.site.com/
es.site.com/
fr.site.com/
de.site.com/

I think that helps search engines to identificate correctly the language of each site.

Using subdomains is harder tho if you don't intend upon keeping several versions of the whole site...instead using something like mod_rewrite to specify the language to each page...I personally prefer the /language/ method.

This is the Best way for sub-domains quite often the search engines/portals will in fact take this as a totally new domain unto its self , meaning it will often take it as a totally new domain and not simply a sub domain off the root
