Is it possible to have subdirectories under an addon domain? I created one using my FTP client (which treated the addon as a regular domain), but the site couldn't find the file in the subdir.

I'm assuming this is because an addon domain is actually a subdomain...

eg www.ADDON.domain.com

therefore do the subdirs for an addon have to be placed at www.domain.com/subdir ??

hope I'm making sense!

thanks,
Simon

You created a subdomain with an ftp client? how did you do this?

A subdomin as you know points to a subfolder. /www/sub
An addon domain does the same thing, but shows the url as the domain, and not a subdomain. You can not have a subdomain for an addon domain, as this would break, because it would be sub.addon.com wich would need to point to /www/addon/sub
I believe apache will not allow this to be done, as the depth is to much.
I think you could configure this to work properly if you had access to httpd.conf as then, well, you could make it work, but if you do not have access (root) you would not be able to have subdomains for an addon domain.

I hope that makes sence ;)

Yes you can, with Cpanel this is how it works:
Say your main domain is maindomain.com and you want to add a add-on domain addon.com

When you create this in Cpanel, you will have
addon.com
addon.maindomain.com
maindomain.com/addon/
All 3 are the same and transparently point to maindomain.com/addon/

No sorry, I meant that I created subdirectories for my addon domain using FTP, I'm not sure where they sit in the scheme of things.

actually, if you have cpanel, I think you can add subdomains to the addon domain just like the main domain, yeah you can, sorry, I forgot about that.

So in this instance do all sudirectories for addon.com have to be placed in maindomain.com/addon/subdirs ? This is important to know when structuring the site.
