"A new study suggests that anti-depressant drugs, such as Prozac, could be largely ineffective.

The Public Library of Science Medicine journal examined all available data on the drugs, which are prescribed to millions of people around the world.

Researchers from Britain, the US and Canada obtained the data under US freedom of information laws, including the results of clinical trials the manufacturers chose not to publish.

Personally, I'm on them and they have made a difference but lately haven't done much, i felt the effects at the start and they helped, not sure if they're still helping me though.

Anyone else on them?

They found they are generally ineffective to those who had mild to moderate depression. But effective to those who have chronic or severe depression. And those who used medication in conjunction with therapy and psychotherapy did better as well.

There are some doctors who just subscribe and not include any one on one therapy, group therapy or support group for those who suffer.

The big issue at hand is that any one particular depression med lasts how long per patient? It appears that the patient has to change meds like underwear. Which in many ways I find wrong. You would think a patient would not have to go though hell and back. Especially with the side effects. Its like what are the benenfits really? Either you still fell not right or sick.

I used to be on antidepressants...they were largely ineffective with me too...considering my quack shrink at the time used them to try to treat impulse control problems.

Though I'm depressed I'm not on antidepressants - I have found pretty much all medication used on me has had little to no effect, so I see no reason to try any more.
