Strange Registration Situation

I was search on some generic keywords and alas I thought I found something terrific!!! OVT has it as a high search rate (5441 for Jan 2007). I searched on my registrar's tool and to my suprise it was available (.com). I thought I was on my way to $$$$.

I did a couple of other quick searches/researches and when I went back to actually register it ... GONE!!

I thought my registrar was scrapping my searches Well after further investigation and checking whois ... this particular site had been registered in 2004!!!

Now I thought that was very strange!!! Your thoughts??

My guess is this wasnt a .com - perhaps a .info?

The issue here is that when mosts registrars dont get a response from the registry when they check a name, they show it as available and try to register it when the registry responds. So often times people are shown domains that are available, that in fact are not.

Now - the other issue, is if its a .tv or one of the ccTLD's that have "premium" pricing. The registrars cant sell a domain even its avail. You'll need to go to the registry or the registry's main registrar to register and pay the premium pricing.

Believe it or not, happens quite frequently.

If it wasnt a premium, they probably just had a connection issue at that moment/time.

First time I notice that glitch with Dynadot. From my experience whois seems to be accurate.

It's happened to me at Godaddy before -- same situation of the name being regged months/years beforehand.

With regards to .tv domains Dynadot is not a main registrar. To but a premium .tv you have to register through eNom
