First off, let me say that I love the sticky thread idea where you can purchase them. I just have a couple of suggestions.

As you have already noticed I am sure, about half the page is full of sticky ads in the main domain selling forum. It makes browsing the forums just a little more annoying and gets in the way at this point. Is there any way to limit the number of sticky slots so that it doesn't become so stacked full of sticky threads?

My other suggestion is to limit the sticky threads to a defined time. I've used them in the past and I've had some threads stay up practically forever while others are taken down much more quickly. I certainly appreciate the extra time but at the same time it's not fair and IMHO results in more work for you guys as well.

Just my two cents.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

Denver, I agree completely and I'm pushing for the same thing.

In fact, I just posted the following in our private FL forum yesterday.

"Sticky threads out of control?"

There are currently twelve (12) sticky threads in the domains sales section.

In my opinion, this is a problem for two reasons....

1) The fresh sales content is pushed way down the page.

2) The "Please read before posting" thread with the rules and guidelines for using that section is bumped to the very bottom of those 12 sticky threads, and this is not attracting the attention of new members.

Can we limit the number of sticky threads running at one time?

Can we bump the 'rules' sticky back to the top, so it's more obvious to new members?

Thanks for any input.

Hi

Me too think that there are too many "sticky"
threads in the Domain Sales forum.
Hope you'll give chance to the regular threads.
Maybe you can open a new forum : Sticky forum
Could be paid for threads.

thanks

I was just going to post this, it's out of control! How much do those Sticky's cost anyway? It takes up half the main sales page.

There should be a max of 5 sticky's at any one time, IMO!

I totally agree! Down with too many stickies :td:

I thnk the stickes should just be removed tottaly and only admin messages as stickies.

Alot of the time shall we say users at Namepros visit the site everyday and must be sick of seeing the same old stickies everyday.

When you have the odd one or two at the top of the page its not so much of a concern. When i open the For Sale/Advertising section all i see in my browser is the sticky threads and no new thread content.

I think the system should be removed from the site and just used for Admins as people will then take note of admin notices.

Just my view!

I say limit them to 5 at a time!

It would probably be more practical to allow stickies but not in the marketplace forums. It would discourage the use of them for the most part and keep NamePros from looking like an eBay listing page.

But Etab, that is pretty much one of the only forums people want to buy them in. I agree that 5 would be a good limit, and if 5 were already taken, you would just have to wait...

There are 18 stickies as I post this. One of which has not seen a post in almost 3 weeks now. Then there are several other stickies that haven't seen a post in a week or more. A couple users even have two of them up each.

Isn't there someway to limit this? I think, personally speaking of course, five would be a very fair number. Something needs to be done because it's taking away from the quality of that part of the forum.

This is just what I was thinking- 18 stickies in the for sales forum is ridiculous. Please raise the price dramatically to limit the number (and increase the quality of the stickied names...).

I can't stand the stickies. I don't even browse the for sale threads anymore because of them. Gross!

5 stickies is still too much. I think 2-3 should be the max.

I swear, Denver's frustration level usually peaks at the same time as mine. Again, we were having the same thoughts and conversations in two different places. :)

The good news....

A) You will notice the stickies in the sales forum have been weeded out and reduced significantly.

B) We have moved the rules to an Announcement thread instead of using a sticky, and are in the process of updating that further with 24-48 hours.

C) We are working on specific limits for sticky threads, both in numbers and length. Expect a definite update on this soon.

D) We are actively discussing other tweaks/changes to improve the sales section, and Marketplace forums in general.

:)
