Is there any limit on the number of sticky threads one can buy in a sale forum?
If not, it may be a good idea to put a limit on them.

I see a bunch of sticky threads at the sales forum, and it doesn't look good:

Or is it only me feeling that way?

We've noticed and have discussed it several times already.

Other than simply raising fees , There isn't many Democratic ways to limit the number of them purchased really .... I mean If it was a limited number - Would it only be a "first come - first served" type thing ? Or should we show preference to members here for a certain amount of Post(s) / Time ?

It's hard to say ;)

Aren't the stickies only meant to be up for 1 month?

In that forum alone, I can count 6 stickies that are over a month old, some are over 3 months old!

Perhaps there should be monthly periods of stickies, and the 3 highest bidders get the stickies. So whoever bids the most np for a sticky gets it.

Personally I don't like the idea of letting members buy sticky threads for promotional purposes (even at the sales forums). Sticky spot should be reserved only for some important announcements, or warning/guideline type things.

A guideline posting such as "Please Read Before Posting!" is now swamped among those sticky ads, and is not seen at all. :(

I never knew there is a amount of time the sticky will stay there, it should really be specific. You should also have a "stock" amount. Eg: 5 in stock.

I agree, you can always highlight your sales thread if needed.

I also agree. I've seen, in many cases, that important threads by forum staff are being pushed to the bottom of the list of sticky threads, since often times they're closed.

Forum leaders do have the option to post announcements rather than stickies, though, but they have their limitations.

That particular section needs to be cleaned, and it will.

Sticky threads are very popular. The pros outweigh the cons, and there is no plan to stop using them anytime soon. That being said, we can improve the way they are used, and as Mark mentioned it's something the staff have discussed. We understand that too many stickies creates an issue, and we continue to adjust our thinking on that topic.

As for 'rule' threads and important stuff -- if you visit any of the domain sales forums now, you will see an "Announcement" with the rules is always at TOP. Many other sections have been updated in this way too. Eventually, all the forums will be. :gl:

FYI: You can't always tell when a thread was made sticky by looking at the original date. Sometimes the sticky option is purchased after the thread was posted or active for a while. Sometimes a 2nd sticky is purchased for the same thread, etc.
