State of the LLL.com

Watch
As a LLL.com holder, I take a lot of interest in the value of these domain names. And have been reviewing the sales history of them over the last few months. Although sites like 3Character.com have a price guide setup that updates almost monthly, if you pay a simple visit to the site in my sig, you can review all reported sales for yourself.

As of this time, there have been about 28 sales of LLL.com's in the past 30 days.

The lowest sale was for XMG.com which sold for $4,500 on Sedo.

Out of the 28 sales here are least expensive 10:

xmg.com $4,500.00 07/04/07 Sedo
uwl.com $5,100.00 06/22/07 Sedo
bqc.com $5,187.00 07/10/07 Sedo
qik.com $5,500.00 07/09/07 Sedo
eoq.com $5,520.00 07/02/07 Sedo
wvk.com $5,600.00 07/03/07 Sedo
cxv.com $6,400.00 06/21/07 Sedo
ykj.com $6,650.00 06/27/07 Sedo
zyg.com $7,001.00 06/30/07 Sedo
xbb.com $7,601.00 06/17/07 Sedo

In terms of classification, I think its safe to say that none of the above domain names are "premium" LLL.com's but are of the lowest quality with poor lettering and limited useability.

Despite this, just viewing the price trends would suggest that LLL.com's are rising much quicker in value than previously anticipated. I also believe it is safe to say that the minimum price of a LLL.com regardless of letter combination has breached $4,000 dollars.

You'll also notice the pattern that Sedo is a solid platform to sell LLL.com's as they represented all but 2 of the LLL.com's that were reported in the last 30 days.

Good report.

Do you think the downtrend of LLLL.com (which keep going down) one of the factors (even a little) of LLL.com price rising ?

Based on what Im seeing I believe that many of the LLLL.com's were "emotional" or "buzz" pickups. People were trying to snag and buy whatever they could. Now that its cooling just a bit, many people with poor letter combinations on those LLLL.com's are finding it harder and harder to sell. I still see a strong market for pronounceable LLLL.com's like CVCV and VCVC but the random poor letter LLLL.com's simply lack commercial useability.

Is this in relation to LLL.com's picking back up? No. I think a lot of domainers inflated the prices of LLLL.com's and they are simply returning to where they should be. I dont see the 2 being connected, because no one is "hyping" LLL.com's....

One thing I think is funny is that no matter how you slice it, whether or not Y would be considered a vowel, there are less CVCVs than LLLs, and yet I wouldn't be surprised if one of the factors driving LLLs up is the popularity of CVCVs and other pronounceable LLLLs. Domainers are probably seeing the prices they are going for and thinking "I could just spend a couple K more and get a LLL.com, a more 'elite' name". I'm sure BCF.com and other recent high LLL end user sales didn't hurt...get 3 random letters and they're bound to be some end-user's acronym someday.

mje.com is currently on auction at snapnames and the price is $17,250 with 2 days left. A LLL.com with a "J" in the middle reaching this price seems unbelieveable.

On snapnames everything's possible. even 6 bidders bidding more then 15k on that name. and there are still 2 days left..

there are also a couple of auctions on ebay with more reasonable prices.. dzn.com $5150 with 2 days left and jta.com at $6250 with 4 days left..

I think this suggests that amid all the hype of LLLL.com's - LLL.com's have been quickly and quietly gaining value.

I totally agree, it seems hard to find any LLL.com below $5,000 nowadays. If this train keeps on running like this the coming months, it's not hard to predict a minimum price of $8,000 for any LLL.com before the end of the year.

Well, I do see quite a bit of growth on the way, but Im not sure about hitting 8k minimum reseller pricing by the end of the year. I would bench mark it just below 5k if Im right. Keep in mind, the sales that I used were all reported domain sales. There may have been a few out there that go unreported for lower amounts.

It seems like after a brief dull period in the winter LLL.com are going up fast. ZYG.com for $7k!?!? amazing. I feel great rejecting a 7k offer for my last LLL.com, just put it on sedo... hopefully it will reel in the $XX,XXX.

I would have picked that one as highly marketable as a short form of "Quick".

No???

I actually had considered this before posting. However I continue to believe this is one of those "slightly" pronounceable domain names that when stressed, can be made a sound. But when I did this name, I came up with something like:

KICK

Was this a solid buy? Yah. I think it was on the low end. But considering the potential ways of spelling phonetically, I think this is still a relatively weak LLL.com - perhaps not on the level of most of the names listed, but I do think it in the right neighoborhood (5-8k)
