Hey guys! I recently learned about domaining and have become very interested in it. Are their any guides or information that you guys could give me to start learning the trade and make my first sale??

there is no blueprint for that, if there was, it would be priceless (don't trust those who gonna tell they gonna sell you one for $50)

My suggestion would be to choose the best name you can afford, then only buy more with profits.

I agree with iowadawg, read as much as possible. Don't expect success in the beginning unless you are lucky (or learned alot from reading lol).

My biggest piece of advice is to stay away from automated appraisal tools. For new domainers you plug your domain into one of these tools and it gives you a ridiculously high appraisal, and now you have the idea that you can sell it for that price. I see it all the time here, there's probably someone trying to sell one right now lol.

When I purchase my first domain, should I but it off namepros? Or a site like GoDaddy?? (I will obviously not be spending much on my first)

Check all the action for domains for sale on namepros.
See one you like, buy it, bid on it.

Same on godaddy marketplace or even on namecheap marketplace.

Also check here and if you see a domain you like, register it.

Just ask, most here will tell you what they think of the domain.

I agree. I am a newbie also. I got a zero on my first domain appraisal and sold it for $300!

I'm assuming it was a brandable name you sold to an end user? The tools only really work for keywords.

Domain appraisal is VERY difficult because a domain is worth what someone wants to pay for it. You have to think about how much an owner of an online business would pay. If the niche of the domain is highly profitable, then theoretically it is worth more. Is the domain name short and understandable?

There are a LOT of factors to look into, and even if after all your research you think your domain is worth XX,XXX you still may never get that. So if you get an offer your happy with then I would accept it. Too many people pass up good offers, waiting for a better one, never to get a good offer again.

I am new to this also. I have yet to do any transactions yet and I am so glsd for that financally. I have been studing here on name pros for about a month and have learned so much and saved a ton. I am about to jump in now since I feel a little more comfortable with whats going on!!! I have had a few names that I have selected that were available but now they have been registered but in the long wrong I think I will be better off. My suggestion to you is read read read here and save your money before you get started. Every one on here is so knowledgedabe and willing to help you out. Just take your time and you will make money just like I will do. LOL
