Why doesn't Spaceship verify ownership and allow others to publish and sell thousands of my domain names without verifying ownership?

@tom365 How many times are you going to repeat that same post?

Firstly , no need to repeat the same post 4 times

Beside that , i think you are talking about spaceship policy of letting some big fish ( with huge portoflios) adding domain names in bulk without verification.
But i think that was on early days only and now that’s not possible anymore.

Can it be that these were domains you caught or reregistered lately and were all part of someones portfolio ?

They should address this matter by the way

I have pointed out the problem to their account on X and in the official Spaceship account. They know it is a concern, and have politely responded. But not yet fixed it or even explained why they can't simply have the Spaceship user TXT establish the true owner, as would be done at Atom, Sedo, or Afternic. I often list names at Afternic or Atom that are still on their platform. It is literally a minute to prove my ownership with TXT verification, all without human intervention. It needs to be at Spaceship, or the stale listings and agent time will be substantial.

It is I think possible that it is only a few huge accounts and that are listing in error not deliberately. Most (or possibly all) of the cases I encountered could be that. Clearly in our industry there are some bad actors who do it deliberately though, and the always at higher prices is suggesting that may be at work. I have communicated privately with someone else, not in this thread, very concerned with this issue. They say that it has happened to them with names that they just registered that were not registered previously. When they listed them at other marketplaces, they soon after appeared on Spaceship with significantly higher prices. That seems to suggest that at least sometimes it is a new bad actor, supposedly with special priveleges.

At least when I went through support, they required for each case I go to the registrar and add a new TXT code, not my personal Spaceship verification TXT code, before they would take down the other name. In the case of two names, even after they confirmed seeing the new code having been added, due to some technical issue they required 2 more days before I got the notice that I could list.

To do it for dozens or hundreds let alone thousands of names will be awful. They need to automate the process of allowing false listings to be taken down by true automatically verified users. Because Namecheap search is so widely used, it is a problem when this happens. For example, I have a name (a .cc) listed at Atom, Afternic and Sedo for $2595. Someone falsely listed the name at Spaceship at $4101. Let's say someone searches at Namecheap and want that particular name but their budget has a firm upper limit of $2700. They might not research further and move to another name, even though my name is actually just under their budget list. Most of the false listings are 2x or 3x, so the problem is even more severe.

Agreed
I’ve also had a couple cases where my domain was already added to spaceship and i had to contact their support to fix it manually , for each one

I wanted to add that the false listing happens elsewhere, what is different is the lack of an automated way to correct it at Spaceship.

For example, a bit ago I strongly reduced price on some .io that I did not plan to renew. When I changed pricing I also, unwisely, decided to list fewer places, only those with lower commissions, taking it off Afternic. I had reduced one particular name to about $1000. Almost right away I got a notice from my registrar to approve Afternic FT for $5000 for the name. I of course did not approve it, after checking that indeed I did not have the name listed.

I then turned on my set of TXT verifications at my registrar, went to Afternic, added the name, was told it needed to be verified, did that, got verification confirmation within the minute. No human intervention needed.

Why the Spaceship system is awful is that it is not the TXT verifications you probably have saved as a group at your registrar. It is each time playing the game of going through a bunch of communication, getting the special TXT, then setting it up at your registrar as a one of, then back to Spaceship help.

I calculated that when stale listings fully kick in within the year if they keep this system it will be costing them about $4.1 million per year just in agent time.

Here is my experience and opinion. This thread prompted me to review Spaceship listings for my domains and dozens of domains were identified, all following a similar mark-up scheme described above. The support agent noted that in rare cases, they may waive ownership verification requirements for large-scale listings. I agree with @Bob Hawkes, there are lost opportunities associated with this, even if a sale doesn't occur. On Namecheap, it appears the Spaceship listings take priority over any Namecheap partner listings. Further, based on the deliberate pricing markups and history of these domains (e.g. it includes some HR'd) , it's evident these aren't accidently included domains from an honest bulk upload. Worst of all, as already noted, the correction/verification process is manual with support agents and has no definite timeline.

Did the buyer end up buying your name on the rebound (for 5k)?

absolutely right

don't need ownership verification requirements for large-scale listings. These users post someone else's domain name at a 100% markup just to earn the price difference(these user sold domain via spaceship namecheap $10000, then they buy domain at afternic or sedo use price $5000.).Why does Spaceship allow this? Serious damage to the rights and benefit of other users. normal users lost opportunities associated with this.

No, the notification to me from Afternic was simply that the name had been listed at Afternic for $5000 and to approve FT.

I added the name to my Afternic account, verified, so the false listing at $5000 was taken down.

There was no sale. It was an example of someone clearly not owning the name (I had it for almost 2 years) listing it at a higher price. My only point was that Atom, Afternic and Seco has smooth automated systems to get these down. Spaceship SellerHub needs to as well.
