This is my first .de registration. Please advise on my first reg. I know the phrase is quite popular. But is it in Germany? Does the english phrase hurt it?

Is the german domain market solid enough to make this domain welcome?

it's another case of language - extension mismatch.

Social Network (english) translates into Sozial Netzwerk (german) which, in combination with the .de would have worked.
however, since your domain name is solely english and the social structure in Germany/Austria/Switzerland generally differ from the american, that includes primarily healthcare, social services, etc. this domain would make only limited sense even with the german translation.
with the english version, as it stands without development:

the only other way to brand this domain would be to work it as a myspace knockoff and try to ride that train, which leaves a lot of work on the table but would increase your chances, until this is done and developed i remain with the eval of reg.fee, sry. :imho:
