I've told snapnames about this several times. Maybe if I mention it here, it will get someone's attention there.
They let a user set up Saved Searches, and then email you -- if you wish -- the list of new names every day with that keyword that will be up for auction. Nice idea. I can specify which search term I'm interested in, and then the names come to my inbox.
Well, not really...
...and they are losing money from this and still won't fix it.
The emails only show up to 25 names from your saved search. Sometimes this is enough, sometimes it is not. If there are 150 names that are new in the saved search, then only the first 25 are shown. There are 125 names that I have not seen and could possibly bid on.
But what about the "View the complete Saved Search results list." link that is on the email? Well, first of all, why should I take the time to click on this for the dozen email alerts I get a day from them? But, there si a bigger, problem anyway -- clicking that link does not get me the names that should be in the email alert list. Instead it gives me ALL the names, matching the keyword, not just the new ones. So, in the example above where it showed 25 or 150 new names, if I click on the link, I might get a list of 2,000 names.
I've asked them to simply remove the limit on the number of names that go in the email. Hell, they could even just change it to 500 or so if they really want a limit. I reminded them that email is free. They seem to think that they are getting charged by the word.
I told them that if that programming fix (changing most likely one line of code) is not something they want to do, they could at least make clicking the link bring you to a page that only shows the names that the email is intended to tell you about.
I just don't understand it. They have to be losing lots of money on this. I know that I won't click on the link in the email and then sort through ALL the names again and again. Who's got time for that? So, I just look at the first 25 names. If name 26 was fantastic, I'll never know about it.
