Ok - I was bored !!

I just added up the totals for some of the highest drop sales I have been in at snapnames.

For just 28 names the total adds up to $368,837 !!! D-: eek - and a1.com which sold for $260,250 is not on that list ! They must be making many thousands of $ xxx sales on a monthly basis too.

Those guys are making an absolute killing - Does anyone know what percentage of the sale price they get ?

looks like another over $10,000 sale may be on its way, citycenter.com

It has a nice overture score with extension of 107 - No PR - reg'd in 1995

For CityCenter.com to be that high, there must be some other issue behind it, surely, like some retail center that would want the name, something like that. That's just not that great a domain name.

I think it could have alot of potential end users for this - here's another possible one in Las Vegas, MGM Mirage - www.projectcitycenter.com

Adding roughly $1 billion to what already is the biggest and most expensive construction project ever attempted on the Strip, MGM Mirage plans to expand the number of hotel rooms and residences at its massive Project CityCenter development.

The company now expects to build more than 2,800 condo-hotel and condominium units, a sizable jump from initial plans calling for about 1,650 units.

The increase also means taller buildings that would tower 40 to 60 stories above the Strip as well as building condos above a Manhattan-like retail streetscape to be built on the former Boardwalk site, south of Bellagio.

CityCenter, which will include a 4,000-room resort hotel and more than 500,000 square feet of retail space, is now expected to cost about $6 billion. The original $4 billion price estimate had been pushed up to about $5 billion by rising construction costs and earlier design changes.

With construction on the main resort expected to start in April, the designs are close to becoming final, officials say. CityCenter is expected to open in phases starting in 2009, with the entire project scheduled to open in 2010.

What do you mean by "up front" ?

pretty sure every month xx,xxx goes to the registrar before they get anynames.

So you rekon that snapnames pays a monthly fee to all its partners + shares the profit from the sales with them ?

If so, thats not so bad I guess, they need to have some way to encourage the better registers to sign up for the drops.

I thought you meant registers were selling the best names direct to some people (big buyers) and not letting them drop at all, that would not be good :|

I believe the deal is that a percentage of all sales go to the registrar that provided the domain. Snapnames has their exclusive partners generating a lot of their sales, and then a whole bunch of other registrars catching drops for them. CityCenter.com, for example, did actually drop but was caught by a registrar feeding Snapnames.

On the other side of this, can you just imagine being the person that let CityCenter.com drop and then finding out later it sold for 70k? Ouch.....

I'm having these thoughts all the time ! If only they knew :yell:
On the other hand if you are eyeing a domain that is no longer used it's best to contact the owner first. You may get a better price than at the drop auctions where there is competition :alien:

Yeah that must be real paintfull !!! :'( This was'nt a netsol name so they are not likely to get a cut of the selling price.

There's a luvely name going to drop this month - I've been trying for months to get a hold of the current owner but with no luck :td:

I'm going to have to sit and watch it go to "the usuals" for $xx,xxx - Bummer :'( That is going to be painfull but I will have to watch !!! :(

ps - Comptons.com just went for $6,100 - Does anyone know who "NewGroup" is at snapnames ??

A couple of more nice sales - Jotto_com for $7,600 and faso_com for $3,000

I just checked the whois on CityCenter.com and it was bought at Snapnames by Bellagio Resorts - MGM MIRAGE.
