From memory, i believe these guys arent some kind of techno wizards, they simply telephone the hosts, pretending to be from [domain owner company] and somehow get someone at the host to divulge the password to WHM... :bingo:

So, more rocket salad than rocket science...

Goes to show simple methods work best. In this case, it's deadly. :(

I won't be surprised if the FBI's been looking into this guy for the longest time.
But it's a big question mark as to how to apprehend the perpetrator.

Odd. Why was my post deleted?

I deleted a couple of posts in this thread. I don't see the point of inflaming a hacker who has already proven several times he has the time and determination available to hack sites and make people miserable. Sorry to be a censor here, but this is a bit of a sensitive subject for me since the events of last August.

If I remember correctly he social engineered the server company NamePros is with into giving him access to the server. So, yes; NamePros was hacked.

That sucks. Sorry to hear that... anything important or valuable harmed?

Yes, this is the same hacker that deleted NamePros and DNJournal last August, and now Snapnames.

Does anyone know what this hacker is trying to accomplish here? This isn't a flame towards the hacker, I'm just interested in why he's going after domaining sites.

His message for NP members was "Don't report stolen domains that don't belong to you." He is a domain hijacker who deals in high profile names. I think the original beef was with DNF though for the same thing. Sedo is said to be the next target because they banned Iran from participating at their site. The SnapNames "reason" was posted on their homepage.

I wouldn't really describe it as "cool". :|

I suggest this thread to be closed. Normally these kind of guys love publicity or any discussion about what they did.

If the discussion is about how to protect your sites or servers, thats another thing.

But thats not what is happening here.

Gamehouse, IMHO.
