Heya,

I was wondering if anyone good give me some tips and hints about choosing a slogan and a name for a new site. Until now i've been pretty decent about it (choosing a nice domain name and a slogan) but i started to look for something more. I need to be good now :P

I would like to know like how many words should be there in the slogan and how many for the domain and stuff like that. So if you have any hits, tips or secrets and of course you dont mind sharing post them here please..
Any help is really appreciated..

Thanks,
NwS

Well it would help if i new what you want to sell on your site

But a slogan must be short but not to short

EG my site

www.pureonlinegaming.com
pure online gaming
one stop for all your gaming needs

------------------
tryed the rest now try the best

I would buy a domain that goes with what your site is about smaller the better

What ya think about acronyms in the domain name? If its kinda easy to remember of course.. Or is it better to use full words?

Thanks for your help =)

PS fox-match: the site is related to gaming (one way or another at least :P)

Acronyms (in my opinion) aren't terribly effective. To a human, an acronym is like a phone number. Unless it can be sounded out and remembered phonetically or as broken down into 2 common words, it's not any more memorable than gibberish.

Acronyms aren't bad but you have to educate your surfers for this
The explanation of the acronym must be visible together with the site name
It will not be good for search engines too

Generally i don't say no to acronyms but i must say as a surfer i would prefer a 2 words domains for a gaming site

If you end up with an acronym name make sure it has some easy spelled vowels in it

Make sure the domain is quick to remeber for everyone and it is not to long, make the slogan catchy for the product or what theme you are on.

Good domain names are still out there, its just not that easy to find them. I have a website that can help you save a lot of time with it: www.makewords.com

This tool is great for finding names that don't necessarily mean anything, but are short and pronounceable enough to be brandable and memorable.

Good luck!

Well in my opinion its all based on what people deem as a "good domain name" it's what you believe is a good domain name.

Basically when I choose a domain name I just write out what my site is supposed to do its "purpose" then I start writing ideas names and make a list when you are done the list get some people and go over it with them, since this is the online list start a conversation on msn with some friends and go over them all, then let them all look through the list and pick the ones you really like, then you and you're friends go through them and slowly knock them all off until one is left..

As for the slogan you pretty much do the same thing, or at least this is how I do this.

Just my two cents.

Thanks for the info! I usually do the same thing about the domain part at least. Do a mini survey to around 10-20 ppl to see wat they think :P

yeah it seems to be the most effective way because users have to like the domain and people you are asking obviously go on the web and go to websites so they know subconsiouscly what a good domain name is.
