Some sites allow you to add a 's' after http, and it will get past the blocking system that schools/work has.
For example, http://gmail.com is blocked (at my school at least), if you go https://gmail.com it is no longer blocked (at my school).
Try it, some sites dont work with https though. (this also works on some proxies
