I foudn some unregistered cctld domains recently, does it make sense to register for example hotmail.cctld or linux.cctld or torrent.cctld? Do these have 'coolness' for self usage or any value at all? I'm not a salesman kinda person, I collect domains for my self, but I don't want to register crap domains either. So ideas?

If any name is a known trademark and not generic in any way, don't waste your money, imo.

It can be expensive if you start to register trademarked names. So better learn frst what to register and what not.

Trademarks are protected property of the owner of the trademark. Many companies actively protect their marks and you can be sued. Type "wipo domain name decisions" into Google and you can see some cases.

hotmail.cctld is probably ok unless you dont use it for "advertising and marketing services, namely, promoting the goods and services of others by placing advertisements and promotional displays in an electronic site accessed through computer networks and by delivering advertisements and promotional materials to others via electronic mail"

members with better knowledge please correct me if i'm wrong here

Why would you even touch HotMail.anyextension knowing that it is a TM property owned by none other than Microsoft? I would strongly recommend staying away from it.

why not if it doesnt violate trademark limitations as i copy-pasted from trademarkia above - Microsoft does not own words "hot mail", it does own exclusive rights to use them for "advertising and marketing services .. delivered via email"

..or Microsoft is not covered by US laws? :)

Microsoft would likely go after the owner of any hotmail-dot-whatever domain. Even if you think you have a right to own and use the name, are you ready to pay lawyer costs to defend it? Better to stick with true generics.

What a dumbass question. You give ethical domainers a bad name. Do us all a favor, wise up or leave this business.

It's not a question of ethics. It's a question of being unable to use basic search functions and do what amounts to a minimal amount of research before posting a question ...

I disagree. It's about being umimaginative, parasitic, and lazy.
