Hello everyone,
I have onething that I would like to ask your ideas.

I want to open a new website. and I searched the domains for it. The results are

-websiteiwant.com/net are listed as priminium domain and very expensive

-The following are left

websiteiwant.biz
websiteiwant.org

and

websiteiwantS.com/net/org/info(plural form)

I have done some search and realized that there is no website of this nich and I want to go with"websiteiwant.org"
because my site is intended to be free.

My question are
- the owner of the "com/net" might claim that I take his name by using the "org"
- There is no site on the "com/net" now but if I open my site and develop it and the the "com/net" are opened with their sites. Does the search engine go to the "com/net" instead of going to my site "org"?
-Should I take the plural form instead of the "org" in this case?

Thanks in advance and sorry for my poor English

.US domains.US domains
Kombanwa. Your English is quite good. :)

- The owner of the .com or .net should have no problem unless to copy what they have. If someone has the word(s) trademarked, then it may be a problem but only if you abuse their trademark.

- If you build your site first you should have an advantage in the search engines, but if a .com site is built later and on the same topic, then may steal some of your traffic when people look for your site. From what I know and have seen, the search engines do not really seem to "prefer" a .com over the others. The content and optimization of a site is more important.

- If the plural version of the name makes sense (forum or forums), then yes, I think that would be my choice, but it depends on what they name is. I would check with a native English speaker to make sure they do not think it makes the name sound a little funny, like when some non-native speakers say "softwares". A native speaker would not say that and would use "software" as singular and plural.

I do think a .org domain does make good sense and can be even better than a .com for some sites. Being a free site may work that way as you are thinking...! Feel free to PM me if you have questions, I will not steel your domain name, no matter how good it is...! (My wife is from Fukuoka.)

Thank you for your replies.
I would like to make thing a little clearer.

-The domain name I want to take is

a" countryname" portal.org

the a "countryname" portal.com/net/info were registered but they are not in used now. They are for sale however they are too expensive!

(a" countryname" portal.biz is also still left I intend to buy the org/biz)

-a" countryname" portals.com/net/org/biz are still left.

Should I go with the "portalS.com" ?

Or should I go with something like this:

-"countryname" talk forum.com (countrynameforum/talk are taken)
-"countryname" note.com
-"countryname" entrance.com
-"countryname" reference.com

I want to build a portal about that "country". It will contain a forum/ link/download/business directory ...

@nielsencl:

kombanwa (infact it is "konnichiwa" because it is afternoom here!).
Thanks for your advices. I will pm you if I need your help. I am from osaka.

vnjporg: Sorry, I saw Osaka on one of your domains, but it is night here and that is why I made the mistake... :)

"Portals" are not so good to me because it implies you will have more than one. Like a business portal, arts portal, education portal, etc. Perhaps there are other words that would be suitable. Are you interested in using something that people are also using when they search, or something that is a good name?

You could also select something that is maybe shorter and easier to remember, perhaps something the country is known for?

But if you are going to have a forum, directory, and other sections, the plural version could work. If it were me, I think I would try to create a name that was simple, and easy to remember. I'm going to send a PM.

You said that "websiteiwant.com/net are taken". You should make them an offer, they may bring the price way down. Never know.
