Hey,

I have found a relatively new extension with all the single letters available (i.e. all letters of the alphabet a to z) so takes the form of L.ext. It would cost me $1,300 to take all the alphabet so i was wondering if it was a good idea. Another thing, it requires a local contact but i have family in that area so would that detract from the potential market and prevent a sale?

Thanks
kevin

At $1300 if I had the money I might do it. If you can bargain then try. After you do the sweep or not, please let me know what .ext.

Although other savy DNrs with $$$ could be searching as I type. Do it quick:)

it depends on the extension, some factors to consider (short-list) when registering new domain on new extensions: (1) if a country the population of it is taken into consideration (2) the number of registered domains if fairly new then only a few are in it as well could be something that you need to hold on to for the rest of the years so the U.S.$1,300 investment is only an icing on a cake, much more money to spend on it than meets the eye, (3) if not based on 2 above mentioned factors, might be on usefulness as suffix. for example : .am someone regged i.am a good one or .ch a good domain would be sear.ch, well i think that's it. it still yet limited based on my domain knowledge.

whether it worths it or not , it would greatly depend on the extension ...

if it has residency requirements (and not just local contact ... like .lu needs the administrator to be in Luxemburg) it would greatly lower or deminish their value since you would basically limit your market to buyers that can meet the residency requirements ...

if it needs local contact only , again it could potentially limit your market , because probably not many people will have contacts in that country (logically a small country since all Ls are available) or not bother to get in such a complex deal , especially since , if they try to resell , they will have to face the same complexities with their buyer ...

think about it carefully ... but also rather fast because other people might start looking for the extension ...

i say do it, when you sell it, sell it as a package

if my relation could remain a contact for future owners, would that be possible to resell to someone outside the country in question?

thanks

I would just grab the good ones. x, e, i, s, t, maybe others. Their being a restriction on who can own the domain hurts it a lot for potential resale.

i'd say do it but try and get the price down if possible and once you're done sell it on as a package and give yourself a nice profit at the end of it :)

kev - since you repeat contact I gather there are no residency requirements ...

regarding your question ... are you sure you want to put the family you have there in the perpetual obligation towards the currrent possible buyers ... and their buyers ... and their buyers ... and so on ? ... they might end up representing people you don't even know (or scammers)

restrictions like this (contact requirements or residency requirements) could potentially hurt the value of a domain greatly ... because a potential buyer usually considers that HIS buyer will have to meet the requirements also (which usually is not easy) ... in some limited cases the requirements are lifted when the extension becomes popular (or when it matures) , but that is rather rare ...

also , unless the extension is reletively good (or the extension is relevant with having all the letters) , are you sure that all the letters worth the costs ? ... lastly , if you ARE thinking of buying them , it might be advisable to ask the registry if they can do a better deal for 26 (or maybe you want to buy even more) domains together ... preferably don't ask which specific ones (small risk of an employer in the registry regging some) , just ask "I am interesting in purchasing 30 domains together , can you do a better pricing for them as a package ?"

again , think about all this carefully but rather quickly too ...

Is it what i think it is.... I dont really trust that registry.... nor the fact you must enter your own CREDIT CARD on the form.

Or is it the other one... i sent them an email already :) (so mine).

If its another one... dont get the local contact ones. You arent going to get many buyers at all IMO.
