This I would think is a commonly asked question... but I did a search and couldn't find the answer.

Question is simple.... short or long domain? Long is good for SEO. Short is good for frequent visitors.

For example... what's better? website-hosting-directory.com or hostderit.com?

Thanks in advance!

It depends, I will reg both, submit the longer one to search engines and brand the shorter one on my site and logo.

I dont think search engines really place a high enough emphasis on the relevancy of a domain to justify using a long one. Repeat business is key...

Short always!
I do not see a successful dot com company using a very long domain till now! Only Yahoo, msn, google etc! Imagine microsoftnetwork.com! It is too long!

As short as possible, always.

It totally depends on the names niche,Some niches don't allow for an 6 to 8 letter name,But i don't ever go over 13 letters as a rule.

This question seems loaded, skewed.

So-called 'long' domains, up to a point depending on spelling and typing difficultly (sic), allow for more relevant descriptions of site content.

Short domains don't, in general, allow for more precise anchorage of meaning.

In short, it depends on the situation. Long names can be good.

All depends on the situation, though generally short names are better....

I would go for a shorter domain name if I can get a meaningful one. Shorter domain names are easier to remember, easier to type and far less susceptible to mistakes. B-)
