Selling Forum Signatures?

Do you believe Forum users should generate a profit from selling their signature? Would you (if a forum owner) allow it to happen unless it got out of hand where the users signature is a big red flashing banner?

I strongly believe this would help s forum become more active as users would possibly leave other forums only because they can't generate one single penny from posting there. Could this potentially help produce more posts inside a forum?

Let me know your thoughts it would be greatly appreciated!

If I was the admin, i'd allow it - why not?

question: why would you want to stop it?

if the person is getting paid to put the link in their sig, it means they will post more so they will get more and more people to buy their sig links.

One issue that was brought up was the fact users would start spamming. What do you think about this assumption and how would you solve such an issue?

I wouldn't have a problem with it so long as the poster adhered to the rules regarding SIGs..why would a forum owner concern themselves with it otherwise?

People tend to spam whether they are selling their SIG or not..

Look at most of the forums today, including NamePros. They all allow forum sig selling. I don't really see any spam posts.

One thing to remember is, unless you have a few hundred posts atleast, your sig is hardly worth anything. So if you post a lot of spam, chances are you will be banned before your sig is worth anything.

Very good point! I wish I would have thought about it at many other forums where this discussion is currently being held. by far I think this is the best look at it the situation. Good thinking and sop common sense!

Yes Fewski is right. Besides if you are an active admin with great mods and forum members let the admin and mods know of spammers. The less likely spam will be out.

Make sure when you do post, remember you are carrying someone else in your post. Show them some respect. As well as your own rep.

When you post, Make it pleasant, Make it worth it, Make it not worth it not to get banned for.

I don't really have anything wrong with it, personally. Keep in mind that most signature sellers rent their signatures for a period of time, rather than a number of posts. This way, it avoids spamming.

Here at NamePros, we have well-regulated signature guidelines that don't allow signatures longer than four lines or larger than size two text. There really haven't been any issues that I'm aware of that resulted in spam.

Note: If you're a forum owner and people begin to buy and sell signature links, it means your site's popular enough to get the type of traffic your users are willing to make money from. ;)

you should feel honored. As you said, as long as the guidelines are in place it should work out :tu:

Check out the Link Sales section on forums.digitalpoint.com. The more posts you have there, the more you can make of your signature.

an average of 1k post at digitalpoint could get you $10 per siglink monthly.

And you can have up to 4 links in your signature there, so it may be $40 per month. But you also need a little bit of luck, as members are selling for less to get a deal, etc.

I'm so happy people are supporting this new trend. Sure there's a few forums out there that are right against it but soon they will have no active members as users will go to forums that allow the users to generate a profit from quality posting :)

The real question is -- does it work?

Do you find yourself clicking on signature ads?

Yes to me it does. Considering if it applys to my interest.

Advertising is brief to say the least. The picture, logo or statement just needs to brief otherwise I wont bite. It's similiar to flash sites. If you are American or just lets be general. IF the site/frontpage is in flash. The likely hood of a potential buyer is likes something from 3 to 7 seconds. If it takes longer to load, you lost a buyer. An online buyer is differnet than a buyer who visits a homestore.

America as well as many other nations are a "buy it now/BIN" attitude whether they are from the US or other countries. When a buyer buys on line is a different attitude than walking into a store. Patience and attitude changes vs buying on line. Anything 3 - 7 seconds is outrageous to any buyer regardless of where they are from. Shopping from home via the net vs. stores where they are placed, the impulse is different. If you have flash on homesite, Be sure it doesnt take more than 3 - 7 minutes otherwise you lost a potential client.

Many people find that buying on line should be immediate. if it takes longer than 3 - 7 seconds to load a homepage than you lost them as a customer online.
