Hi

So I found a good name of an advertising company (for example "abcadvertising" this is not the actual name) and there are currently 3 companies named "abcadvertising." Does anyone have any advice or information on selling my domain directly to one of these companies?

One of these companies dont have a website and the other 2 have some random named website.

Any help, ideas, references etc. would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks

First you want to check for any possible trademark infractions. If their is no such infraction I would construct and e-mail and dispatch it to all of these companies.

You may want to try snail mail or fax as well... Good Luck!

:IMHO: e-mail is the way to go. Its much faster, and with the correct heading and logo placement it can be far more professional.

Woo Hooo

Thanks everyone for your input. I think I will send an email to all of them. What do you think would be a good subject line of the email? I wouldn't want any of them to think its spam.

Also, should I throw out a dollar amount or say make an offer?

Thanks

Can we assume you did check for trademark issues as advised above?

Because it does make a lot of difference in terms of how the new question should be answered.

Yes, please visit uspto.gov and check both trademarks and patents. Both can be used and on occassion both can have the domain name referenced in the textes. It's worth the half-hour to be safe.

Be honest. Let them know you intended to develop the site, but were unable too and would like someone with the same name / purpose to have the first opportunity to purchase it.

I have received several e-mails like this, usually .net and .orgs owned by people when I owned the .com name.

Also, some people don't know how to contact the person who owns a domain name and might be happy to buy it if presented the opportunity.

What might also make a difference is being human with a name and contact info, not just a random spam e-mail. People like to deal with people and TRUST is a big issue. Unfortunately, they don't know who you are and maybe leary to deal with someone out of the blue. :imho:
