Sedo.tv, talk about an auction exploding out of the gate:) I think the market has spoken within the first 10 minutes of the auction. This is exciting!!!

Hi SR,
I am not talking about simple redirects ... and I see zero stand-alone, developed .TV's on a daily basis (perhaps it's a geographic thing?)

Come over here (Scotland), I'm sure you will change your opinion.

Jeff states "..But development is of particular importance to an extension ... in the building of a healthy "ecosystem"; .TV's are going no where ... without unique and compelling, exciting 'video-centric' content, development, and promotion!"

This is changing as we speak and given recent changes in the pricing of ~98% of .TV domains, the rate of .TV development IMO is getting ready to accelerate. That will not necessarily translate into a sizable aftermarket for mediocre .TV domains.

You are joking aren't you?, Justin.tv is great for watching football when it's not on the tv.

You should watch Hulls last few games in the Premier League on there!

First accurate appraisal I have even seen from estibot.

Of course its a reg fee domain u-stream-.tv.

Proof yet again that any name however crap it may be, can be made into a huge website with development.

Hi SR,
I am not talking about simple redirects ... and I see zero stand-alone, developed .TV's on a daily basis (perhaps it's a geographic thing?) IMHO. The two that I have seen ... "MLB.TV" and "CBScares.TV" ... are both URL redirects to the respective .COM's; if 100 ordinary people outside of domainers are asked about the ".TV" my guess is 0 or maybe 1 person might have heard of it, and they'd look & feel confused. :guilty:
That's just the reality of the present situation (to which content / development of auctioned domains could help to address in a timely manner), IMHO. :yell:

Thanks for the reply,
Jeff B-)

Over past few yrs the development of .tv sites has been fantastic & has resulted in a great deal of popular .tv's and major brands launching .tv's

I do think the fact you see so few must be something to do with location as i have heard a few US domainers say this while anyone in europe or south america see's .tv's daily.

In scotland i cant go a day without noticing a series of .tv's on tv ad's, using popular .tv's such as stv.tv & five.tv or talking about conent i seen on my favourite new .tv - rangerstv.tv

heres a few developed .tv's which were posted on another forum a while back:

It makes sense that the new, cheaper pricing structure would add perceived value to those domains in a hyped up auction in and amongst .TV domainers and enthusiasts ... but some of the systemic problems of the ccTLD ".TV" and its brand will continue IMHO. We'll see how it all ends up, but as importantly ... whether any actual End users acquire these domains and build exciting video-centric content/websites! :gl:
It's been fun to follow the auction, and see all the hoopla (including mediocre domains being registered en masse with overpriced auction prices) ... but, unfortunately, things all back to normal for the .TV on April 8th! :imho:

All the best,
Jeff B-)

I don't know if you've noticed, but I see a lot of the YouTube celebrities using .TV.

not funny...lol
iam a fan for dot tv but i think most site a very poor seems to me most are full of sites full of people who like to hear there own voices ,
even tho i want tv to do well i always try to stay well clear of dot tv sites i find them full of clips start stop action and content of utter rubbish.....you dont have to like what you sell in this case dot tv..i do this at work all the time

Even the whipdick Glenn Beck from Fix News uses Glenn Beck's Insider Extreme to watch him live during his radio "show". When he is not on air it acts as a redirect.

The other point, really 0 out 100, I talk to people everyday and ask them if they have heard of .tv from cab drivers to kids, to older people. Many at least 50 % have heard. What they haven't heard of is .biz, .info and in a lot of cases .us.

A redirect means nothing. Bottom line Major League Baseball advertises MLB.tv that' whats important for .tv that they are getting the brand out there. And TNT.tv is much more widely seen than Cbscares.tv and is not a redirect. Hollywood.tv also on tv all the time.

Samit you made great points the bottom line is that you are selling a name. Under the troll scenario if Frank Schilling (purely hypothetical)wanted Media.tv from you and offered you $50,000. You would say Frank are you going to develop ? If not I cannot take your $50,000 I need you to develop it so that I know the .tv ecosystem is growing.

I did not notice, thanks ... the ".TV" is the ultimate niche / vanity address ... so this makes perfect sense, IMHO. :music:

Hi Garp,
Good input ... how will the rate of .TV development accelerate (granting that it is now cheaper to register and renewal .TV domains (excluding the existing Premiums, of course!)) if Usual Suspectโ„ข .TV domainers are the ones buying, selling, trading, bartering, and exchanging some of the most developable .TV domains (ie., Jobs, RE, Japan, etc.) in & amongst themselves? :guilty:
Yes; End users, unique developments, "ecosystem", and promotions ... this is what I've been talking about IMHO. :talk:

PS. I will peruse the other ".TV" domains / redirects / sites / etc. while sunning on vacation, thanks much! :music:
Be well,
Jeff B-)

Jeff,

Your anti .tv stance, while perfectly acceptable (heck I was anti .tv till a week ago) lacks credibility and is the ultimate difference between yourself and Snoop.

IMHO - Snoops arguments are logical thought out and have a very strong ring of "truth" and is exactly what we need here in a forum full of cheerleaders (myself included since last week).

But Jeff - when you say things like .TV is the ultimate vanity address....no its not, not at all - it has nothing to do with vanity and everything to do with tv or video....the ultimate vanity extension is .ME - no other way to see it.

Also, your entire argument against .TV collapses like a house of cards when you continue to promote, IN BOLD .web as if it was the coming of messiah. .WEB is really gonna be a winner, while .net is going into the toilet head first in the secondary market

I know you don't believe .web is worth anything at all, so why not just bash .tv with CREDIBLE arguments as Snoop does

Jeff-development often does not translate into monetization but many large companies with recognized brands don't necessarily generate phenomenal returns for their stockholders either. I am a newbie at development and need to learn more about SEO, design and marketing, but you have to start somewhere. Two and a half years ago I didn't have even one .TV domain. A year ago I launched my first "true" website. I have now developed fifteen .TV sites and have four other .TV sites which have been outsourced. None of the sites are high-profile or high-traffic but in the aggregate they still contribute to a growing awareness of the extension.

I love the Snoop, no worries ... ".TV" is very much the ULTIMATE vanity address, a niche ccTLD IMHO. :yell:

Also, your entire argument against .TV collapses like a house of cards when you continue to promote, IN BOLD .web as if it was the coming of messiah. .WEB is really gonna be a winner, while .net is going into the toilet head first in the secondary market

I never said that the highly brandable .WEB is going to be a winner ... I said its potential presence will further DILUTE the niche/vanity ".TV", in my judgement. :gl:

Jeff B-)

Jeff, no offence intended, especially after al your efforts here in .TV land, but if your argument is that .Tv is crap because of your geographic position...

Where on God's great planet are you......?

No offense taken ... obviously, I don't reside in Scotland! :imho:

PS. I never said the ".TV" is crap ... but it is not a serious contender (even amongst ccTLD's), IMHO. :cy:
Best regards,

Perhaps some of you aren't aware of how Jeff operates.

In the past he spent all his time in the .mobi forum of NamePros trashing the extension while openly promoting .TEL

yes... .TEL

Ultimately he drove many domainers away from NamePros.

Here he is again, promoting another TLD within a section devoted to .TV and the end result may be the same. I wonder how many people will be driven away from NamePros this time.

Keep in mind, he is PROTECTED here and he knows it.

Looking through most of his recent posts, it's the same cut&paste as before... adding nothing of substance. He has no vested interest in the TLD, so why are we even wasting time acknowledging his existence?

I wonder how many NamePros domainers invested in .TEL because of Jeff - he was one of its most vocal promoters/supporters before the TLD launched.

Twisted but true.
