Hi,

I just got an offer of $299 for the name (without X-es of course), which was also my asking price (I put lower asking prices usually as I would want to sell). For this name I had some theoretical development plans, probably would never commit though.
Do you see any value and should I counter the offer? I guess I'd be happier with $500, maybe the buyer is quite serious if offering $299, mostly at first I have gotten low $100 offers which may go up to $500 negotiating.
Countering a bit higher shouldn't scare the buyer away if they are already ready to pay the listed $299, right?
Advice? :)
Thanks!

Hey ssamriga,

It’s just a month old domain and personally I think that’s a good selling price for that domain name. It has only 28 searches though CPC is little over a dollar but still $299 is a very good price i think.

Rest up to you…

I have different advices:

Why would you list a name with a price lower than what you want to sell it for? This is sooo annoying for the potential buyers. I had a similar case where i did bid the exact amount a seller was asking. Then he came back with a price 3 times higher than what he was asking. I canceled the negotiations altogether and chose another name.

Just imagine you go to a car dealer. There is a 2000 dollars price tag attached to the window of a car and when you want to buy it, the car dealer tells you "no, i want 6000 dollars, the 2000 is just to attract your attention".

Simply impossible in any other business.
So my first advice would be to change this practice. Not only its not good for you, but also kind of ruins the reputation of domain sellers in general if more people do that.

If i were an enduser and see such practices, i would stay away from Sedo forever.

Second advice would be to sell for 300. This name is not worth more than that imo.
Plus, as already mentioned, you will probably piss off the buyer by increasing your price after the buyer was ready to pay what you were asking even without negotiations.

There was a name listed on Sedo the other day Partners. org .uk listed for 69USD. I offered 69 the person in return countered with 140. I was like wtf.... Another time I noticed biofuel. in for 100USD It was a buy it now option. I paid My card was charged and the seller was nowhere to be found. It was never transferred and Sedo apologized and returned my money.

Then again I search sedo and afternic for sales that I know the owner has placed a price for his or her domain and has forgotten to update it in years. I can pick them well.

So 1) If you place a price make sure you update it every 6 mnths. Sometimes sooner bc if you have a name like keyword. me and keyword .com was just sold for a million then you know your domain's value went up as well 2) I really don't think your name is even worth 299 so take it.

So, the conclusions of this interesting discussion are...

1. @ssamriga --> just take the deal! B-)

2. For buyers, "Fixed Price" is highly preferred than "Make Offers".

Cheers! :snaphappy:
