Hi All! :hi:

By request, we've decided to start a thread dedicated to Sedo. We're looking for invaluable insight into what domainers want and need out of our parking program (and marketplace, of course).

Questions, comments, suggestions, tips are welcome! We're hoping this will be a great discussion about what works at Sedo and what might not (please be constructive and respectful to others in your feedback) so that everyone involved can benefit and learn from it.

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas! Happy Holidays!

Always,
Keith
(on behalf of Sedo)

Click on "Domain List" on the left side of the screen when you login. Once there, you will see a drop down menu on the top of the middle of the screen. It most likely says "selectg days". You can set this to the current day, a number of days, or a number of months. Also, to the right of that menu, where it says "show by", then "domain" or "date" you can alternate between that to compare day to day stats instead of domain by domain, or vise versa.
Sounds great but I don't see these options. Attached is the page I get when I log in:

That is different then the Sedopro screen. Try the link that says "Domain Parking".

I need SEDO's response. Non-sedo Einsteins plz don't get involved here:

I have several websites on bankruptcy, foreclosure, forex, etc.
Occasionally, I switch them to SEDO's parking.
For the last 2 or 3 years SEDO paid anywhere from $1 to $3 ppc for these domains.
Lately they started paying a nickel!
What's the great thinking here?

Domain Parking gives you a "statistics" page which only lets you see 32 days of data, if you want to see it for your individual domains. There is one option to view stats over a period of months but it aggregates the data by month (so you can compare visits, clicks, income, etc per month but not per domain over a period of months, as I am trying to do).

I just got a message back from Sedo support that confirms that these are my only options. Guess I should apply for a SedoPro account.

Sorry, it is hard to know what features are exclusive to Sedopro when you don't use the regular Sedo program. Good Luck with the Pro application.

The minimum fee is the minimum amount that they will charge you for a transaction. In most cases, if you park your name at Sedo, your fee for a transaction will be 10%, with no minimum. If you sell a domain on Sedo that is not parked there, you will be required to pay 10%, but you will have a minimum charge of what you see above. So, it is 10% or the minimum fee, whichever is greater (but not both combined). Also, some obscure extenions have the minimum fee regardless of how long they have been parked.

Non-Sedo Einsteins?? Your question has been answered numerous times on this board already. http://www.namepros.com/408817-sedo-com-official-thread-8.html?highlight=estimates#post2906516

If you want to ask a question specifically to a single Namepros member, and not to the board, you might want to consider PMing that member. :hehe:

Hi,

You can reach us directly at http://support.sedo.com if you do not want experienced Sedo users to help you out in this forum.

Domain parking earnings may fluctuate up or down for a variety of reasons. Some of the factors that can affect the earning potential of your domains are:

• Seasonality: People may change their browsing habits at certain times of year. Summer and warmer months may cause a decrease in visitors, and thus in revenue. More people use their computers in colder weather and during the standard school year.
• Pop Culture: Trends in the real world can affect those in the virtual world.
• Traffic Quality: Higher quality traffic will be rewarded with higher earnings. Lower conversion rates of clicks to sales for sponsors can impact the amount of money certain keywords are worth.

The best solution for this issue is to re-optimize the affected domain. This can include the keyword, the landing page template, the image, etc. A change in these to reflect the changing patterns in your visitors may help to reverse any decline in revenue.

To edit the look of your domain names, please take the following steps:

1. Log into your Sedo account.
2. Click on “Domain Parking” under the “My Sedo”
3. Scroll down and click on the Optimizer link located on the lower left of the page.
4. Make desired changes to your keywords, landing page templates, and images.
5. Save your changes.

You may download/open Sedo’s PDF document below for information about making the most of the current optimization tools (some features may only be available to SedoPro members):

Domains with not otherwise specified extensions have a minimum commission fee of $150 or 10% of the sales price, whichever is greater. This is due to the cost to transfer certain extensions.

Thanks but am I correct that the there are no options for stats on domains (not months) over a period greater than 32 days?

You may view the stats for "all months" via the Domain Parking (old) section of your Sedo account. This section is found from the "My Sedo" dropdown.

Once in that section, select the "Statistics" tap. And from the dropdown menu on the right, select "all months"

My Sedo account has been closed, lol

After trying to log into my Sedo account with no success, I decided to check my email account attached to their service and found this message from them:

From: sedo ([email protected])

"Dear Sedo Customer, This email is in regards to your domain names parked with Sedo’s parking program. Upon reviewing your account, our quality management department found that a large portion of your traffic does not convert for our advertising provider, and is therefore ineligible for Sedo’s parking program. Therefore, your domain names have been blocked from our parking program, your parking revenue has been withheld, and your Sedo account has been closed pending further review. If you have any questions regarding this decision please let us know. We will be happy to assist you. Best regards, Your Sedo Team"

Is this an official notification? If so I am very amused. I knew most my domains were lame, but I didn't think that would justify them closing an account. Too bad, they witheld a whole 64 cents from me :D

In order to comply with our ad provider's traffic regulations, our Quality Management Team must lock certain accounts domains from our parking program.

If you feel your account was closed in error, please contact them directly via [email protected].

Notified

Thunderforce, at least you were notified. I wasn't even given the common decency of being notified.

I was logged in looking at the latest auctions and getting ready to bid when the system locked me out. Tried the password send/reset option even though I knew I didn't change my password or username, and I was informed that my account is closed!

I haven't done a single thing that would call for such an action. I just bought most all the domains I listed at sedo in the last couple of weeks and haven't even visited the parking pages on half of them! Now, for no rhyme or reason my account is closed? I have not yet bid on any names, nor received any offers so it can't be a problem related to auctions. Quite strange really. Not sure what went wrong, or who I inadvertently pissed off but I guess there is not much I can do now.

As with an earlier poster, I don't really care too much about the parking, I was mainly interested in buying and selling domains on sedo. I was quite excited about bidding on one the domains in the current auction, and was looking forward to selling a few domains there also.

Sedo's lately been notorious for erroneously shutting down user accounts due to "parking fraud." They did this to me recently as well.

Try e-mailing Sara Beninato of quality management at [email protected] to get your account re-opened. She's one of the few Sedo reps who writes fresh, personal responses.

thanks for the responses

Thanks for the info and advice. I had about 20 domains parked for less than 2 months with sadly no offers. After trying to add some more, a day later my account was closed. I'll consider trying to get my account activated again.

Response

So, I did finally get a response to my emails, but of course my account is still closed so I cannot bid in the current auction. Its quite surprising that a company would out-right block and deny a legitimate customer from spending money and generating more revenue for them. I have never heard of a company denying someone that's wants to spend thousands of dollars on their site.

I am 100% sure that I did absolutely nothing wrong, and broke no rules to cause some of my parked domains to be "subject to traffic that is not in accordance with sedo's terms and conditions". The only two domains I had at sedo that had any traffic at all were domains that were just purchased from drop lists in the last few weeks. How in the world would anyone be able to or expected to, control traffic from names they buy? I don't have a clue when I buy new domains how much traffic they will generate. Now that this has happened, I have been checking out my new domains and one of them has 48 incoming links according to yahoo and 0 according to google. Is this what caused my account to be closed? I cannot imagine a domain auction house that doesn't allow a domain with a few links. I could understand banning a particular domain, or even banning a user account if they build links AFTER pointing the DNS to sedo, but links made prior to the current owner even buying the name from a drop list? Links made over a year ago? Come on, thats nuts!

I am new to this whole parking thing so I am asking what did I do wrong here? Do you have to check and make sure there are no incoming links to a site before you buy it if you plan to sell it on sedo? I am at a complete loss here to figure what went wrong or what I possibly did to receive such treatment.

Here is the canned machine response I did finally recieve from sedo:

"It looks as though your Sedo account was recently suspended. The reason indicated is that some of your parked domains may have been subject to traffic that is not in accordance with Sedo’s Terms and Conditions and Rules for Domain Parkers."

I guess you simply can't buy a dropped domain and put it on sedo, god forbid if you are lucky and it gets a few visits! They should state this in their terms, conditions and rules. The ironic thing is all my sites combined (40+) received slightly more than 100 visits total and a few clicks for a measely $0.13 ! And for this I get my account closed!

I have tons of recently dropped domains listed on Sedo, many of which boast dozens of incoming links. I don't think what you're describing is the source of the problem. Several "entire websites" (not parked domains) are sold in Sedo auction every day, and I imagine some of these have boatloads of incoming links.

E-mail Sara Beninato, asking which of your domains specifically caused your account to be suspended and why.

sort of successful

I have emailed half a dozen people at sedo. I did finally get my account un-banned, but I never did get any information on what the 'problem' was.

To be honest, I am hesitant to even use the site now. I honestly have absolutely no idea what could have caused my account to be closed. I found out what domain they claim the "unnatural traffic" came from, but I still don't know what this mystical "unnatural traffic" is or how I could possibly avoid this in the future. I have pointed that domain at my server and put up a basic page so I can start accumulating some "awstats" on the traffic, and watch the server logs but I doubt I will see this "unnatural traffic", but time will tell. I have researched the history, backlinks, everything I could find on this domain and still don't see anything strange. It's just a dropped domain with a handful of backlinks and long history of parking.

How in the heck do we possibly check out a site, and sanitize the "unnatural traffic before listing at sedo? I was stupid, I thought that I could just buy some dropped domains, list them at sedo and park them to accumulate some traffic data for potential buyers, but apparently I was terribly wrong. Now I don't think I can put any domains back there, because I have no way of knowing for sure what kind of traffic might come. The whole thing is insane.

I completely understand not wanting some domains, and some traffic, heck I am very picky with my traffic that I purchase from adwords, but to just instantly ban someone from the whole site for some unknown, mystical "unnatural traffic" is just plain communist in my opinion. Incidentally the revenue in that one month of parking/listing at sedo was a whole whopping .13 cents! Now that my account is "unbanned" my .13 cents has disappeared! Ha ha... Its comical. If someone needs 13 cents from me that bad.......

I would really like to hear some ideas, experiences, or plans for making sure domains are "sedo safe" before parking them/listing them. I will now keep my DNS pointed far far away from sedo and the trigger happy admins. Its a shame, I missed out on some good domains in this last auction because I couldn't login to buy/bid but maybe my money is better spent purchasing domains directly from sellers and avoiding the middleman anyway.

I think its quite obvious that there is a huge void and need for a good domain auction and marketplace. These last couple of days, were quite strange. Here I was with a couple of thousand dollars to spend on some domains in their auction, but they wouldn't allow me to even login to do so. If they are going to play these 'ban for no reason' games, they should separate the auctions from the parking, they are only shooting themselves in the foot.
