Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone knows the answer to this question:

If you buy a domain on sedo that is a BIN for example for £500 and you go through the order process are you guaranteed to get that domain name or can the owner still decline the offer price?

Looking forward to your input,

Cheers,

Aaron

By the rules you should get it but in reality it is not guaranteed. The seller can 'disappear', if he hasn't kept up on his Sedo account he may be listing a name he no longer owns etc...

If BIN, you should get it but as m-i-k-e has pointed out, the seller may disappear. There are also many domains that have changed hands outside Sedo that sellers have forgotten to remove from their Sedo accounts, so you can find yourself BIN'ing a name that the seller no longer owns and cannot transfer to you.

I agree with the both above, it would be a good idea to check the users recent activity.

Sedo is a listing venue NOT the seller.

And hence, even if one goes through the order process and pays for it, there is NO guarantee of getting the domain.

The same is true with auctions - just because one wins, doesn't mean anything - both buyers and sellers can, and many do, renege and not follow-through with no real penalty from Sedo beyond, maybe, suspending one's account, though even that, from my understanding, rarely happens.

Bottom line is there are no guarantees of a "sale" until funds have been exchanged and one has taken possession.

To digress a bit, I wrote "sale" and not ownership, because even a completed sale does NOT guarantee ownership; domain could be stolen - for that one needs to check whois history / google / archive.org / forums, do due diligence, and hope for the best.
