First time experience with Sedo.

Had an offer on a name which I then countered with the usual highball.

"Buyer" then counters with an offer lower than the original offer :td: asking me to "justify my price".

I was not aware that a lower could be entered in a counter! I know the seller cannot raise the price.

Anyway, guess Wot my reaction was :? :)

I've never had that problem, but it shows you what can happen. I guess it goes to show that you should stay reasonable in your counteroffers.

The counter is not the point, it is the fact that a "buyer" can come back with a lower price - definitely designed to p off the majority of people.

WOT I think these people are scams I got the same thing Justify price then after a week just to prove they were a scam I told sedo I would come back and offer the name lower than what they offered. No response then they cancelled after I sent them another note saying SEDO told me to offer again to prove you are a scam bidder. You are right if they are lowering what is the sense?

I'm guessing the prospective buyer was not that serious in the domain if he countered with a lower price. What was the domain and original offer?

I was bidding on a name on Sedo. Started at $175 - the seller then worked me up to $225 but kept pushing. I left it a few days and realized the name was only worth $200 - so I lowered my bid. Seller lost out as he got greedy.

Are you saying the seller actually accepted your lower offer :?

Or did he/she do what I did by suggesting he/she partake of sex and travel :?

I got 8 offers last month in Sedo.
2 of them were ok and ended with payments.
But 6 of them accepted my offer and disapeared when Sedo trying to get the payments from them.
Sedo even sent me the details of some of them.
Well , I have a feeling that there is a scam attack these days on Sedo.
Or is it me only?!

I would like to make a comment here.

It is getting to the point where I am VERY reluctant to respond to an offer at SEDO - even though I have sold several names for prices up to 8K

Too many "buyers" disappear once negotiation starts and even if the offer is accepted first time around.

Before committing the seller to a contract, SEDO should ask the buyer put his money where his mouth is and demand a token "earnest money" deposit when making an offer.

Deposit would be refundable if an agreed-upon sale did not close because of sellers fault or default, but distributed between SEDO and the seller if the buyer defaults or chickens out.

This would reduce the number of scam artists and result in more confidence from the sellers viewpoint to enter into a transaction with a complete stranger.

Just my 2 cents ...

I think you are suggesting something like a $5 bid fee, just as NP auctions now has a 50np listing fee to cut out the doggy poo names (...well some of them)

For some reason, the buyer seems to have more power than the seller at Sedo.com. I remember having an offer once, then no followup from the buyer. I wanted to cancel the transaction. If, I remember right, I think Sedo told me I couldn't for 30 days!!!
