I'm very new to this, never sold a domain, but I do own a few that I have developed into sites, I'm here doing some research because I want a few more domains to develop, and I thought I might as well get some domains of value! I'm interested mostly in software development, web development, SEO, that kind of stuff.

Anyway a couple of weeks ago someone asked me if I was interested in selling searchandbid.com. I regged the domain, because I intend to develop it into a web service, so I replied that I had plans for it but if he made an offer I'd consider it. He offered me $100. I replied that it wasn't worth my time transferring the domain, finding a new one, registering it, setting up the DNS, email. That was the last I heard...

A couple of days ago, checking through this and that, I noticed that the same guy registered the .net .org . info .co.uk, all on the same day he made the approach to me.

I found searchandbid just by typing random thoughts into NameCheap, although I've since discovered that it was previously owned, by who I've no idea.

Am I missing something here?

Edit:

Sorry SKATONA if that wasn't clear, What I'm asking is why would anyone register the net org info co.uk when the com is taken (the com's got no pr, and isn't getting any traffic yet) is it worth $100, I wouldn't have thought so, what do you think?

I'd say you handled it correctly. Sounds like they guy had the same idea, but you beat him to it.

As far as value, the name alone isn't that valuable and I feel it was a decent offer. But, it has good potential developed so I think you made a good call in rejecting it.

Make sure you keep track of your receipts for the domain, so you have proof that you had the idea before him because it looks like he's planning on a similar site and, if he get's his version up before you, he may try to claim that you can't develop your site because he trademarked his.

I've had it happen a couple of times. I received notices that I owned names that infringed on trademarks and needed to sell them my name or they'd sue. A simple search showed that (in both cases), they tm'd their names more than a year after I registered mine. neither got the name and I developed and sold sites for both.

If you haven't developed the site, I'd at least put up a "coming soon" page with the name prominently displayed, with (tm), to declare your proposed use of the name.
