Develop it. That's your best bet.

I was thinking that, but i'm not much of developer. If you had to put a rough estimate on it, how much do you think it would get at auction on flippa?

I don't have a clue.

No more than $30-$40 unless you buy tons of upgrades... Then you might possibly get low $xxx if you are extremely lucky

IMO .io domains do not sell very well unless it is short 2 or 3 char, or a single keyword that has good search volume and especially if it's tech/computer related.

Anything less than that you will lose money trying to sell quickly. You can either cut your losses or keep paying rent on it for atleast a year or so, maybe more. Keep an eye on what is catching bids and what listings are stale and you'll get an idea of what you can get for that.

I just sold domainhost.io with high hopes of it getting a good amount of bids... It sold for $55 and the site is already well developed; and by the looks of it, they could have afforded to pay a pretty penny for it. Hold on to your 2nd tier .io names unless you are hurting bad and willing to lose money.

The problem is that the extension doesn't fit what it is traditionally thought of as being used for.

If it was the .com or worse case, the .net then you might be able to get good return.

With the .io, I can't see anymore than mid $xx - very low $xxx and to get that you would need the right buyer.

If you are dead set on .io domains, my advice would be to try and grace delete if you can get a refund and go for a shorter tech-related name. They're out there if you look hard enough. Find some that are pending delete on nic.io and place a backorder from them. It's pricey but if you BO there, vs. Park.io, you don't have to worry about it going to auction.

The dot XYZ sold for $900 on flippa. While the dot com version sold a few years ago for $2250 on afternic (suggesting an enduser sale.

Now XYZ is not that old of an extension that the website built on it would have deep rooted seo. So I would think it went for $900 on quality of the build plus perhaps some 'XYZ' frenzy timing.

So try to find out more about that flippa sale and try something similar or dump it for $xx

Good Luck.

The seller is now suspended on Flippa (https://flippa.com/users/960869) and "confirmation pending" on the sale when reported to the blogs (http://domainshane.com/flippa-recap...-info-designly-com-odge-com-adwu-com-cb7-com/)

I doubt it went through.

Regardless, don't waste your money on io's. Anything left to register, is likely not worth registering. You can go on the aftermarket and buy 2 .com's for the price of one.

Undeveloped it's not worth more than mid $xx imo.
Best of luck!

I really don't see any value here at all. SEO backlinks? As opposed to...? Doesn't make much sense to me.
