I bought the domain name www.Scouts.com circa 1995. I was a Scoutmaster in Troop 107 in Lannon, Wisconsin at the time.
The site has a fully developed forum at www.Scouts.com/forums with over 500 members.
I'd like a buyer or investor in the site to enable the site to do all it can for the Scouting movment worldwide. Without actively promoting the name I've had several offers for $100,000+ and I believe the name is worth perhaps half again as much.
Scouts.com draws about 500 type-in visitors a day.
The site could be so much more. I'd rather see it developed than languish. We'd like to see a free unit page for Scout units around the world, giving them their own metacalendar (each unit's calendar goes to the overall Scouts.com calendar, enabled by geography and type of activity) and a Member page (inlcluding patrols or dens, leaders, etc.) plus an 'About Us' and an image gallery.
These pages would be supported by pay-per-click. Most troop and pack sites leave a LOT to be desired. In the case of Scouts.com, corporate sponsorship from camping and sporting goods companies (and any/all good corporate citizens) would be possible. Big media companies are spending $millions for (self-updated) content on which to place PPC ads.
Another potential revenue stream is web-based attendance and promotion stats, a value-added for, say, $100 a year. The advantage to units is enormous because everyone in the unit has access 24/7, and the unit secretary and/or scribe does not have to have the record-keeping job forever! The potential here is huge in addition to PPC.
