After a lot of problems with SAV in the past, I use them now only for backorders.

A couple of days ago, I placed a few backorders which the system accepted normally.

Today, the first batch of those backorders are about to be attempted and, guess what: the system let me know that they will not be attempted because it tried to authorise a pre-payment but it couldn't so it forfeited the attempt.
Upon checking my payment methods, there were none there. Note that my auto-payment with SAV had been set and was working normally for years (even up to fairly recently).

- No-one let me know that the payment method was removed from the system at some random point in time (so the system actually had no payment method to pull funds from)

- The system did not warn me, upon placing a backorder, that there was no pool of funds to draw from. If it did, I would at least have taken action back then.

- Even when I now re-added my payment method, there was no confirmation that it actually works (it should have made a small pre-payment on the spot and let me know about it) so it's still unknown if the backorders will work in the end.

- Contacting their support, yet again, proved how clueless they are since they didn't realise that the most probable reason of the issue was my auto transition from the old version of SAV to the new one so, all they had to do was just letting me know of the fact and remove the stress from their customer. (lack of proper training is *not* the support's fault btw.)

In other words,
SAV is still in the same messy hole I left them a few months ago. They can be so much more but they don't. I wonder what is really happening in this company.

Why is Sav changing my nameservers? I tried to get an answer from chat support and they were worthless. I also asked for a copy of a nameserver change log and they claimed that it was an entirely internal document they couldn't share with me.

Currently, SAV provides stale auth codes for .CO domains. Any attempt to Reset these codes fails.
At least, that's my experience.

Why is Sav changing my nameservers? I tried to get an answer from chat support and they were worthless. I also asked for a copy of a nameserver change log and they claimed that it was an entirely internal document they couldn't share with me.

It has been suggested a number of times that anyone wanting a reliable registrar would probably be better off avoiding Sav. I don't believe they have done anything recently to warrant a change in that recommendation...

My issue was resolved manually by the SAV tech support. However, such glitches ruin UX.

SAV said it won't attempt to catch a domain for me, then went ahead and caught it anyway.

Yesterday I got an e-mail "Backorder Pre-Authorization Failed" saying:

Two hours prior I got another mail stating the domain name, so I knew what it was about. I didn't really want that domain any more, so I was happy that I didn't have to log in and remove it. That was until today, when I got this:

Action Required: Payment Failed for Your Caught Domain(s)​

Great news the following domain(s) were successfully caught on your behalf:

[here be the domain name]

Unfortunately, we were unable to process your payment. Please add funds or update your payment method to complete your order.

Yeah, I'll pay for it (when I figure out how, because there is no link and there is nothing in the panel either) and forget about it for a year, but what the hell, sav? Decide on one thing and stick to it. And besides, I never set "Account Credit" as the default payment method, it was always paypal and still is, checked it right now. I even checked automatic payments in paypal and yup, sav is still pre-authorized. Heh...

Good for you. But they created this problem themselves, by keeping the backorder after catching the domain.

If I order a domain, I want this order to be active forever, until I cancel it or until it's fulfilled. I'm not too happy about this change, but maybe it was necessary for mutual sanity.

afaik, the problem wasn't that they kept the BO after catching the domain.

The problem was that, there were domains we were interested in in the past but we were no longer interested in in the present thus they were catching unwanted domains.

That was a problem with other BO services as well and they implemented a toggle where you could choose whether a BO is permanent or one-time. eg. Catched.com have this feature at present.

SAV should have implemented the same feature to cover everyone's needs.

It was both, but the first one is a service problem, while the second one is a user problem. A toggle seems like a good solution, though. Definitely better than wiping out the whole list...
