In my state of Wisconsin the same-sex marriage ban passed. This means that the government of Wisconsin only sees a man and a woman as a married couple and will not recognize same-sex marriages. The funny thing is my state is hard core democratic and then they pull this stunt which is quite conservative.

Other than that every person who was in office last year reclaimed their thrown. How did other amendments go in voting? I read a post that said stem cell is approved in Missouri, which I think is pretty cool.

Does anyone live in a state where same-sex was voted no?

Here in VA the amendment passed as well. Though I think the case will eventually end up in the US Supreme Court, thats when we will finally get something that means something.

Supreme Court ruling is probably what it will take.

I don't think same sex ban has ever actually failed in any state that has put it up. I think even Oregon passed it a couple years ago.

Most polls show that around 85% of Americans want a ban on same sex marraige.

Don't forget that Wisconsin also voted that they would like to see the death penalty come back in cases where DNA Evidence exists.

It was only an "Advisory" and considering Doyle was elected I doubt a law will actually pass, but it is very interesting to see this.

Apparently it failed in Arizona of all places? But I think it has passed everywhere else that I've seen it put up.

So the question, does the country just hate gays or can you oppose gay marriage without being a gay basher?

More good hard-working educated Americans for Canada then - your loss.

If it's hard workers you're looking for, there's a whole bunch of them just to the south of us.

Here the problem is religion. People are not "gay bashers" they just are religious enough to believe man and woman should be the only ones married.

I heard a great quote...

"If you don't like gays hate the straight people, they created them!"

lol.

I highly doubt that 85% of Americans want a ban on same sex marriages...most polls are biased and politically run...

People need to keep their religious beliefs where they belong...behind closed doors...if it is one thing I hate is people who try and force their religious beliefs on you. Last I knew the church and state are suppose to be separated and yet we have this. I can't see how anybody can sit there and tell other adults they can not get married...I don't care it is a sister and brother that wants to get married we have no right to tell them they can not...the word freedom comes to mind...people want their freedom and then they want to deny others freedom....what a sick thing that is.

I agree, that's why we can not oppose polygamy.

You can not deny a person to love one or more people

at the same time. People can not be discriminated based

on the number of people they freely choose to love.

:)

I'm amazed that in this day and age two people who love one another are barred from the legal protections marriage affords just because they are the same sex.

While were at it, I don't think we should oppose father and son marriages either. I have nothing against a father and son loving each other.

Grandmother and granddaughter I have a problem with. I really think that goes to far. But grandmother and grandson, I think that should be OK.

I'm still debating over father/son/grandmother/granddaughter/deceased uncle polygamist marriages though. I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Can you please back up this statement.
I would like to see your evidence that 85% of Americans oppose this.
What polls are you referring to .

Links please.

This is exactly the reason for some people to dislike gay marriage. Anyone could just marry anyone to get more legal protections. There are other reasons too, but my head hurts right now.

The problem with that is their DNA. All of their children (of course, only in the relationships with females) would have an extra chromosome (aka they would be "intellectually disabled.")

I don't think anyone is seriously proposing or mixing up the idea of gay marriage with incestual marriage (well, except for my neighbor maybe!)..

By legal protections, I'm suggesting that a gay couple who have shared their lives should be allowed to marry so their spouse can share in death benefits, etc legally.. and why not?

I know the difference between gay and incestual marriage. The first part of my reply was to you, while the next was aimed at Infidel's post. (I quote the opposite way as you.)

Say you have someone who is about to die and they are single. They have a great friend who is the same sex. They could just marry, and the other person would get all the benefits.

I could see how if two people truly loved each other, and that's how they really felt, that they should not be discriminated against and they could do whatever they wanted to. I'm not a religious person, but I still see marriage as a bond between a man and a woman.
