There is a group of vocal domain investors, perhaps from a new generation, who no longer find traditional (highly structured) forums interesting, and instead prefer to use social networks to discuss and trade. They build a network of followers and put a lot of time and energy into discussions. What is your opinion on this? How do you see the landscape in this area changing and where will we be in 5 to 7 years?

I think social media is great and building a following can only be a good thing.

Social media posts are typically sounds bites - small sizzling bits of info to get you to click a link and learn more.

As you don't see a lot of in-depth content on social media you will end up on a blog or in a forum.

Experts tend to congregate in forums - the structure and moderation help people to contribute and ultimately develop and grow ideas collectively as you are putting your thoughts in-front of other passionate and experienced piers & receiving feedback which ultimately makes your idea more rounded.

Hello Ryan and welcome to NP๏ผŒ how about my domain Baccar(.)at and Howtodo(.)it

Much appreciate it in advance
So these ones are a bit more tricky to evaluate however i would be looking at Namebio for comparables

c.at sold for circa $60,000 in circa 2016 - i believe domain hacks have increased in value since 2016 and are more commonly used.

Baccarat being a niche gambling term has value but i am not sure if a company would launch a brand on this domain. I see it being utilised as marketing collateral for a gambling company.

howtodo.it is also tricky but i would again be looking at Namebio and some shorter comparables include:

howtovideos.com $42,500
howtoprint.com $6,000

It would again make good marketing collateral.

Valuation wise:

baccar.at $25,000+
howtodo.it $7,500

My suggestion for both would be to try and get market discovery by placing for sale with minimum offer around $5,000 and see which buyers approach you.

They may fly or they may not - its hard to tell as they are niche markets that are relatively underdeveloped.

Flip is for our UK market.

We have flipjet.com for our global auction platform which launches later this year!

We will have a premium marketplace and auction companion for every ccTLD
Okay, I see. Nice one.

DNWE is a private marketplace with 3,500 domain investors who buy & sell in private.

Unlike other marketplaces & landing pages you don't need to change nameservers meaning you can leave domains where they are with end user prices and use DNWE to sell in private quickly.

It is an investor/wholesale market so lots of great buy & sell opportunities.

Also coming soon is the ability to auction domains on DNWE
Looks interesting Ryan (y)
Joined up and listed a few including a couple of 1 word .ai domains. Nice user friendly interface

********.com
DOTDB = 1
End Users Google/Crunchbase/Linkedin/Yahoo/Bing = 0
Google Auto Correct = Active (thinks you are looking for 'calendars' or 'lenders')
Age = 2 weeks old
GDV = $1,540
AVG Search Volume '*******' pm = 3,600 pm (probably from typos)
AVG CPC = 5c
AHREF = 0

This is a sit and wait domain - i would price at $4,499 (for an end user) but it is unlikey to sell at any price in the next 2 years.
@RyanEwen - I spend a lot of time evaluating domain name assets using various methodologies in the professional appraisal section of NamePros (Only accessible to VIPs, Pros, and Gold members). I try to keep at least one finger firmly on the pulse of the industry by dissecting different niche combinations in various market sectors.

I'm always looking to learn more and better my best.

I noticed (in the quote above) that you use a few different sources than I do when evaluating a domain asset. Which leads me to my question...

Could you break-down your own domain evaluation strategy/methodology into bullet-points when considering a domain name for acquisition? I would love to see if some of the pieces could fit into my own evaluation puzzle.

Thanks in advance. :)

Hi Eric,

Just wanted to acknowledge your message and i will come back to this on Friday as it will need a detailed response and i am currently about to fly back to the UK.

Happy to share our evaluation strategy/methodology which i am sure you will already have most if not more elements of already but it is always good to have a comparisons.

I have done a lot on portfolios, domains, websites & social media assets including outbounding so there may be something that adds value.

Hi @Gary Scot. Did you just join & list a few domains on DNWE? It seems you need some sort of approval, no?

Hi, @Molly M. , I can share my little experience so far: I submitted my personal data and the names of two of my domains, received an instant automated email confirming that application had been received and it was pending approval. Shortly after that came the approval message.

Then I logged in and could fluently list my domains. Fingers crossed for a good result!

DNWE is a private marketplace with 3,500 domain investors who buy & sell in private.
That number seems kind of high.

How many active buyers are there, for instance that have bought a domain in the last 6-12 months?

(I have bought several domains on DNWE).

People should just post in it, Namepros is not going to delete it. It's the official DNWE thread at Namepros.
People can post in it however, people are not going to post in it if they aren't going to get a response from someone at DNWE.

Ryan just took over, I told him about that thread and in the future either he or I will respond.

Yeh that was a weird valuation, imo. Don't quite get the number supplied there. Great question, Eric.

Btw, welcome here Ryan.

Congratulations on such an active and insightful AMA Ryan. Really appreciate all of the time.

I realize you are catching a flight, but when you have a chance would appreciate information on:
  1. What will be replacing Dan to close sales at DNWE and will it permit a lower minimum sales price at DNWE?
  2. Are there changes planned for the Prime and Standard listings, or the process or fraction of names that get the collated button?
  3. It has been super easy to relist names that did not sell. While convenient, this tends to perhaps keep names that have not had interest in them. Have you considered a timeout before a name can be relisted? I think I recall that Name Liquidation had that.
Thanks again, and best wishes for your various projects.

Bob

Happy to share this data - will dig things out and update shortly.

There were 3,500 members - when we cleaned emails there were 150 dead emails.

There have been over 150 new members registrations so we are about back to where we started.

Will let you know:

1) How many people have bought in last 12 months
2) How many have sold in last 12 months
3) How many people have logged in last 12 months (this is probably the best one)
