Just out of curousity, whats the price difference between running a Windows hosting server vs a Linux?

I know most of what you need to run a sucessful Linux server is free as opposed to Windows' money hole, but does anyone have close estimations?

I see alot of Linux hosters and very little windows, is it only because of the price to run such servers?

Windows servers arent as popular, they only real benefit of them is the differnet programing languages such as APX etc.

Hope this helps :)

The difference in prices for web hosting=difference in prices for licenses.

Well, it sort of depends. I think it's fairly safe to say that you're not going to find a comparable Windows server that costs less than the Linux equivalent. Windows costs have come down in recent years, but you're still paying (at the least) a licensing fee for Windows itself where Linux is free outside of RHE (which still costs a good bit less than Windows). You're basically looking at roughly $20+ than the Linux equivalent, but that's a very rough estimate, so don't hold that as in stone.

People are correct here. The main difference is differences in the windows licence, which is not free
