So recently I had an issue with a Flippa auction and I wanted to bring it to the community for some opinions and feedback.

Here it is....

Ok, so recently I conducted a 7 day no reserve auction for a domain on Flippa. As usual the auction went well with multiple bidders and ended smoothly with a final bid and winner. At the end of the auction I conducted the standard procedure and engaged in the completed sales thread to make payment and domain push details.

So, like normal I messaged the winner and advised to please make payment to my Paypal account and provide me with their Godaddy account details for the push. I advised I will immediately push the domain once payment is completed. So like normal I wait for a response.

24 hours pass with no response and no payment made. Now in the sales completion page, you can see when the message you sent was either "seen" or "unseen". The message was clearly marked "seen" shortly after I sent the message, but I received no response.

So, like normal I send another message saying to please make payment and provide the Godaddy details and I will immediately push the domain.

Another 24 hours pass with no response. Again I observed the message to be "seen" shortly after sending it.

So at this point I feel I should have at least received some sort of reply given the fact that the person is reading the messages. I feel that they are not replying for a reason at this point.

1. They don't want to follow through
2. Stalling due to not having the funds
3. Never intended on paying from the beginning

Now this is not a huge sum of money at only low $xxx, but still it's my business model and I like to maintain a good track.

Ok so now over 48 hours have past and still no response. At this point I should have at least been contacted by the member with at a simple response just acknowledging the auction ending.

I now believe that the member has no intention of making payment due to the lack of communication and no payment made or even initiated at this point.

At this point I reach out to the member who bid just under the current winner of the auction and ask if they are interested in purchasing the domain at their bidding price due to the current winner not acknowledging. That member immediately responded and said yes they are very interested and will make payment promptly if advised. I told them Im giving the winner one more chance before I resort to the next bidder.

So, again I send a message stating that if no response if made withing the next 6 hours Im selling the domain to another Flippa member who also bid on the auction.

Now get this....they responded this time very quickly (go figure). But the response was only to say that they dont like Godaddy and asked if Paypal was buyer protected. They said they thought about using a credit card with Flippa escrow. So I responded that we can use Flippa escrow if they felt safer that way but payment needs to be made.

Again, no response after time. So I messaged if I should start Flippa escrow for payment.

So, again guess what? No response. At this point its been over 72 hours or 3 days and no payment has been made or a response the payment is initiated through escrow.

At this point I feel 72 hours is more then enough time to make payment, or at least acknowlege that payment has been started through escrow.

So I did what I felt was the proper decision to make and I contacted the other bidder. The other bidder immediately made payment and the domain was instantly pushed with no issues at all. I actually lost money because I sold at the lower bidding price.

So now I contact the original member who won and did not make payment and advised I sold the name to the other bidder. Well they became angry and said I was not the law and best practice was to answer within 14 days and payment made between 14 and 30 days.

Well Im sorry but thats not how I operate my business. So now they know I sold the name to another member and they started a dispute. Guess what they did now?? Yup, they made payment to Flippa escrow and I was advised payment was made.

This is now 4 days after the auction ended and no response about payment being made and after it was known I sold to the following bidder.

The dispute was canceled, but now Im advised from Flippa that payment has been made and to figure out the details between both parties....

I have been burnt many times in the past by non paying people and honestly Im sick of that part of this industry. I made a decision for my best interests and whats done is done.

The big question....Am I right or wrong here?

Thanks.

Finally I finished reading lol. I would say you are wrong based on how Flippa worked the last time I had auction there. After 72 hours, if you received no paymwnt or any communication whatsoever from thw buyer then you should contact Flippa by filling a dispute and then they will advise. He will lose the dispute if he doesnt properly answer to it in allocated time and then you can movw on to offering the domain to the second highest bidder.

The policy for 72 hours is in reference to not responding. It doesn't specifically state payment. So if I decided to file a dispute that would then mean they would just contact the member and once again give them 72 hours to respond. My issue is that the winner was reading all the messages in the first 48 hrs of auction close and not responding or initiating payment. Once contact was made, the messages were once again read but not responded to until I mentioned selling to the next bidder. Even after that point and over the 72 hour mark, payment was not made or initiated. They decided to make payment after I advised I sold due to lack of communication and payment status.

I made this decision on my own due to my business model. I don't wait days with no responses or payment plans.

I could be wrong, but I stick to my business models.

I just want to say that I have no issues with Flippa and their platform. My issue is with the winner of the auction.

Thanks.

Yes I understand but you could have filled the dispute with all these details like him reading the messages and not responding etc. What did Flopa say now ? You have to transfer the domain right ? Or get suspended. The filling of dispute alone would have made him pay instantly I suppose and He does seem to be someone who understands the system.and Godaddy :)

The dispute was canceled. Flippa advised that payment was now made and to work out the details between each other.

The issue is no response was made about payment, and payment was made after I advised the domain was now sold due to lack of communication. It seems it may have been a spite payment because I moved on to the next bidder.

I suppose it is and because he knows the system he wants to punish you since you missed punishing him first by going with the dispute. He will file again I assume when He gets no domain.

This is a quoted message I received after advising I sold to the other bidder due to non responsive messages and no payment.

"you are not the law. a general/international best practice is to answer within 14 days - maybe even 3 days to be polite for bigger deals. And payment within 14 days or 30 days"

I don't play games....and that sounds lIke playing games to me.
