Thanks to Mr. Schwartz for disclosing time of negotiation, minimum price, where many NDA (buys their silence) this helps, way should be.
$1.5M the man has earned right say whatever.

Congrats To Rick "KING Of The .COMS" Schwartz..

However..

Getting In Bed With Contracts For Just a .COM IS Time waste IMO...

Just sell the .com and move on is more hot looking...

This looks little bit bad...

The .COM king getting into..... AC Biz lol

for not even 10 mil...

Just my opinion..

People could max out the credit card registering every acrepairSTATE.com and acrepairCITY.com and even acrepairTOWN.com. The list goes on :)

signed a contract for minimum $1.5M value

what is value? how is it measured?
It is measured by the Value of the company as a whole.

Lets say the company has a value of a $100m and Rick sold the domain for 1.5% of the company, that would give him an ownership stake valued at $1.5m

Now the deal could have been part cash and part ownership like he did with Candy.com
Lets say $500k plus 1% ownership. That still = $1.5m

Rick is a very smart and shrewd domain investor so if he says he got a $1.5m minimum deal then rest assure he got a $1.5m minimum deal.

That is why Rick is the King (y)

Rick sold the domain to an AC repair company for a cash sum + stock/equity/similar.

Over time, he will get a contractual minimum $1.5m in his pocket. If the business does big revenue numbers, he stands to earn more on top of the $1.5m.

Not sure what the confusion is? This type of deal happens all the time.

thank youโ€” the claims of misdirection in this thread are ridiculous. Rick always asks a hell of alot out of his deals. He probably asked for much more in cash or this route cash plus equity. He sometimes gives payment plans too so will not call it a โ€œSaleโ€ until the deal is done.

Yes, this thread is a misdirection, he just said this domain's worth, not the transaction of 1.5M.

Good news for rick obviously but, at $1.5m+, it's a grand splurge by a services company (Ac.Repair may be the potential buyer). So many good "Ac Repair" names available for much much much much less. I wouldn't have spent more than $10k on it even if I was in the AC repair business. Just my opinion.

for 1.5 M I would buy ac.com

Maybe it's sold for a local company in Florida where's AC is a big business. I don't think a company can service the entire world.

Congrats, If this was posted in the appraisal section a few days ago i don't think many would value it all that high.

Notice how Rick isn't clarifying the sale in his Twitter post....

He was asked multiple times what type of deal it was and what the 1.5 million min value meant. He didnt respond to any of the comments when asked.

Im sure its a great deal for him and 100% congrats to him.

But the $1.5 sale misdirection isnt cool.

If this being a $1.5m sale is a misdirection, I ask that you revisit 4th grade math class (or simply drop your willful ignorance).

If you sell a domain for $10,000 but stretched out in 10 payments of $1,000 โ€” did you sell the domain for $10,000 or $1,000?

The answer is $10,000. You sold the domain for $10,000.

If you don't think Rick will get his contractually obligated $1.5m, you're wrong; He will get much more.

If you don't think an AC repair company can make $millions, you're dreaming.

A family owned AC company can make $10m yearly in a single southern US city. I flipped houses and apartments, HVAC is big money.

Itโ€™s bluster. No clear declaration of what he sold it for, or if it even sold outright at all. Typical.

Was that the first domain alphabetically in his portfolio?

(for newbies) (y)
Hand registered for $35/yr (at that time)
How long does it take to sell (make a deal) for $1.5mm = 21+ years
Marathon, Patience, Turning down $xxK - $xxxK+ offers, etc.
Hmm...I am a larva ๐Ÿ™‚

Rick traded something for $1.5m after 21 years doesn't mean everyone gotta wait for 21 years.

Gonna prove your statement not entirely true, someday before 21 years! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜

This what makes people not give sales figure.

the inquisition, naysayers, and skeptics.

if you got a name as good as ACRepair, โ€” good for you. you have a number try to attain.

What hand registrations? โ€œmax out credit cardโ€ Did u not hear@Lox?Rick held for 20 years? max credit, hold 20 yrs no 2 situations are the same. what might be 3 months for him, might take others longer, and more to even get right contacts.

You worry too much, this is a tough game,
we all find out the hard way, but Rickโ€™s disclose should not be โ€œmehโ€, but celebration, for him and the industry. (like it or not, boosts morale)

I mean, besides air conditioners... what does ACRepair stand for? I can't see it being 1.5 mil... most HVAC companies don't make that much per year??

I mean, I've seen titan domainers with domains like boiler repair serv... or something of that nature, and they're only asking for xxx,xxx or even high xx,xxx...

If it were an all-cash upfront deal, the price may have only been ie: $750k.

Since the company may not have had the cash on hand, it was drawn out into a larger price tag.

Rick probably owns a lot of real estate. This means he can get great deals on AC for his own properties, as well as earn a share by onboarding all his buddies that own real estate themselves. Smart deal.
