Hi Folks,
I am constantly approaced about my domain name, REX.COM. I had it appraised by greatdomains and they suggested a price of $75k. I would love some feedback by you folks. Personally I think it is worth much more and have turned down some considerable offers over time. I know that REX means King in many different languages, so I like to think of it as the potential King of the Net. :) Anyway, a friend of mine suggested this place as a potential resource so I just really wanted to step in and say hello and I appreciate any feedback.
Thanks much
Joey

Very nice name mid-high $xx,xxx

Rex is a very good word & everyone has heard of it. From the 'T Rex' dinosaur to 'Rex tvs'.

Around $95,000, IMO. Make it into a movie site/fan site for Jurassic Park :)

WOW... if you haven't already retired... you can start planning on it!

How long have you had Rex.com? Are you the original owner?

Hehe, I am in no hurry to get rid of the name, though I am always willing to entertain SERIOUS offers. I have had the name for 11 years now. It has been through an array of evolutions. Currently it is in a transition phase and mostly is used to point to several other domains I own and operate. Are you at all affiliated with the greatdomains.com web site or is your id just coiencedental?
Thanks for the replys folks!

Excellent name. Since you had it 11 years I assume you wouldn't sell unless it was the right price for you. If it was me...I would want 250k but realistically....I think the name is $75-150k for a fast sale. But who knows..to the right corporate buyer 1 million smackers is also quite possible.

Is your intention to hold or are you going to broker this out to fetch the pot of gold?

I'd say anywhere in the low $xxx, xxx is the good price ;)

Like I said, I am in no big hurry to unload it. With the right price in front of me with a serious offer I would entertain the thought. I plan on holding on to it unless I am approached. I personally dont think a broker would be the right person for the job unless they are agressively seeking the right folks out there for it. As far as I understand a broker would just put it up for sale and then wait for a potential buyer to come across it. I dont think that is the way a domain name like this would be sold. I would assume that someone who has an idea and wants the name would just directly contact me. Do you know if my understanding of a broker is wrong?
Thanks
Joey

I wish I was affiliated with greatdomains... but unfortunately... no, entirely coincidental... great domain though, wish you the best of luck (not that you need it, lol).

screw brokers, this name doesnt need a broker it sells itself. Why lose 10-5% of your sale. You have quite the patience to not sell at high offers.

I have no problem with a broker, I am just not going to pay one dime up front to do so. I would be quite happy to pay a broker a decent % if they actually made an appropriate deal come through. Patience is something I most definately have, I learned it quite well from my 5 orange cats :)

Your understanding of a broker is spot on, almost all of them just list your domain on their website. However listing the name on a site like sedo.com would dramatically increase your chances of a sale because they are making a targeted market of domain buyers aware of the availability of your domain. This is why you should not underestimate the value of brokers such as sedo.com.

Some other brokers will actively promote your domain and attempt to find buyers for it, however i know of few reputable companies who provide such a service.

As for the value of your domain well its all very well saying its worth one million however who would be willing to pay that? (very few i'd imagine). That is why you need someone like sedo to provide you with that market of buyers. I would value the domain at high xx,xxx - low xxx, xxx. I feel if you were offered $300k ($330k, $30k brokers fee) then that would be a very acceptable offer.

Best of luck.

Thanks for the tip, I have never heard of sedo.com, though I have never agressively tried to sell the domain. Obviously the value of the domain is somewhat subjective, but I feel the sales price would have to compete with my own 20 year plan. Most of the folks over the course of time that have approached me have had their own idea of what they want to do with the name. I doubt very seriously that someone is going to buy the name because they browsed a web site and saw it for sale.
Thanks much!
Joey
