Reseller vs retailer vs speculator vs...

I'm really confused by what term means what. I assume "reseller" and "retailer" mean you have an agreement with a register to offer registrations on your own website. (not what I want to do)

But I also see "reseller" being used for people who buy names specifically to park or resell them for profit as soon as possible (what I do want to do).

I don't particularly like "speculator" but that seems to apply to the buy-and-sell-for-profit business, as well.

Can anyone help me understand the distinctions between the terms?

Thanks!
Tom

Reseller/Wholesale ... reselling domains for a profit, either to other Resellers (potentially lower valuation Wholesale market) or to End users (at the generally considered higher valuation End user/Retail arena). Resellers can be speculators to a large degree ... if not wholly. You're at the right place, in other words. :)

I put a post on another forum a while ago. I'll repeat it here.

My Mother and my Sister have both made a small fortune in the real estate market. They have both bought properties that I thought that they were crazy making an "investment" in. They bought this crazy property, not to live in, not to develop, and not as something that they imagined that they might use later. They bought this crazy property as an investment - they were speculating, plain and simple. They could have lost money. When they bought the real estate they did not know what the market would do. It could have gone down as fast or slow as it went up. To my knowledge, neither have ever taken a loss.

What we deal with here is nothing more or less. Call it an investment or speculation, it matters not. YOU are investing YOUR money with the hope of a future return.

My Mom and Sister are real estate investors. They do some homework, take their money out of a bank account that does not keep pace with inflation, and put it somewhere where, they hope, will eventually give them a positive return. I don't see a difference here.

So maybe, you should look at yourself as an investor - not a reseller, speculator, etc.

Nice story. I agree with it also. The domain market is a investment. Many times it will run you down but many times it will help you grow. Its all up to your homework and the market at the time. Every name is a gamble unless you plan to use it for yourself. So its and investment and dream to profit out of it.
