We're getting ready to add a new site to our holiday network, one we feel will get some attention. We're just about ready but I'm not happy with the creatives. I need a catchy header and a scalable logo. Here's what we need:

Type of Contest : Logo & Header
Prize : $50
Contest End Date & Time : Friday, October 13th - 12.00midnight GMT
Size Requirements :
Header: 728px wide
Logo: no more than 250px wide

Color Requirements :
Colors:
Background: FFFFFF
Primary Text: 008000
Headlines: b90000

General Requirements :
The site: DefendChristmas.com
Theme: Fighting the War on Christmas

Additional Information :
What we want is a splashy header for the front...nothing that loads too long but that makes a statement. Then we want to put the logo in the header on the internal pages next to a rotating banner 468x60.

The colors above are just a guideline and a reference for what the rest of the site is using -- traditional Christmas colors. We want the logo to be rich...to speak Christmas.

We want to select a winner of this contest on Friday, October 13th. Payment to the winner will be by PayPal.

Thanks for the entry. I believe the use of a cross in a logo would be offensive to some.

Ummm, thats what Christmas is about. If you are defending Christmas, what are you actually defending?

Yeah, Christmas is the MASS OF CHRIST. Its the birthday of Jesus Christ thus is entirley christian. I dont want a religious debate but I agree with thmst. What are you trying to defend?

Here's my fun little addition. If I had any skills I could make it look more professional. Oh well...

Just quickly, Christmas is a celebration of the birth our Lord Jesus, the cross represents His death. Maybe edzachary means people may be offended in that way.
But, if edzachary means other religions will be offended, other than Christian, then I'm sorry but that is just tough luck.

Guys...trust me. I run 18 (and now 19) Christmas-related websites and I've done it for over a decade. I know what I'm talking about with this. I don't want the logo of the site to be the focus of the site. We have content to carry on the discourse and that discourse, of course, is exactly what the site is about. I want the logo to be just that...a logo.

I very much appreciate the effort of the contestant. But if this illustrates anything it shows that the artist has to know more than just great design skills. My hat's off to whoever succeeds with this one because I've looked at dozens of designs for nearly a year now in anticipating this launch and we just haven't found the right one. It might not mean much to most but this one means a lot to me.

You are right. It is a tough concept. I was thinking of the 3 Wise Men following the North Star (located within one of the dippers).

Are we limited to those colors or can we add more colors?

I dont think you do know what you are talking about as it seems you havnt even grasped the concept of the CHRISTmas at all and havnt really explained why we cant use a cross.

Ok, so sorry guys weve got to ban christmas trees now because it comes from the old norse paganist religion, that may offend somebody. Oh and by the way, SAINT Nick cant be used either because he is a saint which links directly to Christian Turkey. :)

Any mods reading this: Im not having a go I just want an explaination to why a cross cannot be used on this logo, I apologise if I cause any offense at all but it seems a silly thing to be celebrating christs birthday and not use his emblem. Afterall the cross is the christian symbol and christmas is a christian holiday.

Regards

The contest holder does not want a cross in his logo. It's that simple.. No need for a debate.

Uh...sheesh. Thank you for making my point.

This is exactly what the site is about and exactly the reason why I cannot use a cross or a menorah or the "pagan" Christmas tree in the logo. Is Christmas sacred or secular? Well, it's both. There isn't a right or a wrong in the equation. It is what it is. I won't define it for you...why should anyone else define it for me?

The cross is holy to some people, abhorred by others for various reasons. And, quite obviously, the cross is a symbol most closely associated with Easter...not Christmas. And, for what it is worth, Christ wasn't born on December 25th. It is not a celebration of his birthday and never has been. Yes, there are those who recognize the nativity at Christmas but even the religious rites associated with the holiday fail to recognize both the birth AND the cross.

And that being said, a cross is very limiting on a design and unpleasing to the eye because it fails to use the balance of an odd number. A cross creates a quadrant -- a structure --and speaking strictly from a design standpoint it complicates the "message" of an image. It breaks the rule of thirds. I don't like. I don't want it.

I appreciate the efforts of the artists here trying to tackle this and plan to pay a bonus to the one inspired design that will make the site.

While I appreciate the efforts made here none of these designs meet the criteria set forth in the contest. Therefore, I am declaring this contest dead without a winner.
