[REQ - LOGO/HEADER] - First Time Poker Player, $45

MOD: As I'm new to this forum, could I pay the prize of $45 to a forum moderator/ staff member in advance (who then pays the eventual winner) to increase my credibility?

Type of Contest : LOGO + HEADER Design

Prize : $45,- through PayPal

Contest End Date & Time : Sunday september 6th 8:00 pm GMT+1

Size Requirements : LOGO: Vector; HEADER: height +/- 150px, width max. 700px

Color Requirements : Preferably to fit with the colors already on the website

General Requirements : I'm aiming for a uniform and elegant look perhaps with a touch of sophisticated humour... The logo can/may be (part of) the header. I am NOT after the all too common flashy casino look, neither the standard ' royal flush' or ' pile of poker chips' idea.

Additional Information : Website: firsttimepokerplayer.com. It is a guide that helps beginning online poker players navigate through the world of online poker. At this moment the site contains a series of articles covering 'off table' concepts (where to play, how to move money over the internet, etc.) along with critical and extensive online poker room reviews. I plan to add ' in play' strategic content in the future as well. You may use the tag line 'A guide to playing poker online' or something like 'Start out in online poker on a straight path' or whatever you think would be best (including leaving a tag line away altogether).

I really like the colors you used and overall look of the design. I think the complete black background will work best on the black background of my current header, although i don't know if the logo will stand out enough if used as a header with the black reaching over the whole width of the screen. I like the metal look of the fond, but think the 'smudgy stripes' (esp. the black stripe near the bottom of 'poker' for example) are a bit too pronounced. I think the 'o' in 'poker' as a chip isn't very original as a concept, but looks quite good with the colors used. Overall I think it's a very good start!

So you do like shiny and the usual style poker logo concepts? In the General Requirements you stated that you wouldn't like to see something like that.
Would love to participate your contest but got a bit confused what you're really aiming for.

@ancitis... Design what you feel from FTPP's original brief. Yes I went against some of the elements FTPP mentioned, but sometimes when it's down on the board the CH may change their mind. I took a chance... this time it didn't quite pay off. You shouldn't design something based on the feedback the CH gave me... design from the brief!

Hi ancitis,

What you often see in poker/casino websites are a mix of bright colors, sometimes flashing in animated pictures just screaming for attention. That's not my style. The glare/metal look of BlueOrange I think looks more classy than the usual poker/casino style. Hope this takes away your confusion? Anyway, feel free to submit your design based on the original post, it's not like a glaring/metalish fond suddenly is a requirement now !

So here's my entry. Felt like the yellow goes really good with the black and dark red, but it can be changed of course. Any feedback will be highly appreciated.

ancitis: I definitely really(!) like the originality and humour of your concept and I agree that the yellow looks good and breaks the overall 'moodyness/darkness' of the black-red theme. I don't know exactly what it is, but the header doesn't strike me (yet) as the 'mature' eye catcher (again, not in the sense of flashy) it has to be for every page of my site. I hope this makes any sense to you... Maybe you could experiment a little with different colors and size/position of the name (I'm not sure if that would be 'it')? I assume that the 'First Time Poker Player' text would make the logo?

J-MAN: That definitely is a uniform look. However, I don't really like the fond/text or the 'standard' background that has all gambling to it. This one doesn't do it for me, sorry.

aioshared: A good looking header, but the illustrations don't tell me much about the site other than that it is poker related.
