The i C o n n e c t Network
The i C o n n e c t Network consists of a number of websites each run individually. Their main purpose is to provide an ‘informative guide’ on a particular topic. To explain more clearly, here are a few examples:
* i C o n n e c t WWW: This website will aim to provide a full guide on how to make your presence on the Internet. It will include such information like creating a website, hosting, domains, SEO etc.
Other examples in the network currently are i C o n n e c t EBAY, i C o n n e c t ADSENSE, and i C o n n e c t MYSPACE. These all offer the same basis of information in that they aim to provide a guide how to excel in the area.
Each website will have it’s own .com domain (E.g. i C o n n e c t WWW.com and i C o n n e c t EBAY.com). As they are all part of the i C o n n e c t Network, only one unique layout needs to be made, which will be used on all the websites in order to create a brand image. Obviously they will not all be exactly the same as there needs to be something to distinguish one from the other. This could be something small like a different image on the header, on each site, as long as it looks the part. An example of what I mean can be seen on http://www.giveawaynetwork.co.uk/ On this site, each of their individual sites has the same main logo – but just a different colour. This works well as they are not identically the same, and so this idea could also be used in the same way on the i C o n n e c t Network.
MAIN SITE:
General:
The site is based around giving content, so navigation is paramount. In the design there needs to be some sort of area (sidebar?) that will display the timeline of links. Apart from the content links just mentioned, there will be 3 other links set in place: (Home, News, Advertise). Some sort of recognition should be allowed for the main portal site (i C o n n e c t Network), for example in theGiveAwayNetwork there is a bar running along the top of the screen so that users can go the main portal site and see what other websites are available from the network. I’m open to ideas as how this can be done. A Web 2.0 design would be preferable, here are some sites that help to show what it is:

And here’s a site rating their top 10 2.0 designs:
http://www.cameronolthuis.com/2006/05/top-10-web-20-designs/
(The freelancer had never heard of web 2.0 so these were just for some ideas)
Technical:
The layout should be designed so that it gives plenty of room for content (don’t want huge navigation bars and small content space). It will eventually be coded so that it works well for smaller resolutions (800x600) aswell as 1024x768 upwards, so this need to be taken into account when designing the layout structure.
Colours:
The design must use light colours that are easy on the eye, no heavy abstract colours dominating the site. As mentioned previously, the logo can be of different shades, a different one for each site, although that is just a suggestion. If a web 2.0 design is implemented, colours will be minimal, but used wisely.
LOGO:
The generic logo will be on many forms of media – the website, business cards, t-shirts etc. This means that that it needs to be made so it is suitable (i.e. not a heavy logo that is based around a photo or anything). The shade must be easily altered to go with the different websites. I’m open to how this is done but a number of alternatives would be helpful for me to choose from.
I'll try and post feedback as soon as possible for the entries! Good luck!
