Here's what happened to reo.us:

TDNAM auction for reo.us closed at $2,300+.
High bidder failed to pay.
Domain was offered to next highest bidder for $2,114.
Owner reclaimed domain before anyone could pay.

TDNAM shouldn't auction anything until after the owner is no longer entitled to reclaim it.

From 'whois' it appears to be an end user (reo-usa.com). My guess would be someone contacted them and offered them a side deal for the name and either they realized they'd accidentally let it expire or got a nice offer in their email. 1000 bucks for a name you'd let drop would seem like pennies from heaven to an end user.

This is a major flaw with the TDNAM system. Anyone can look up history on a name that fetches good bids and contact the previous owner directly.

I feel your pain. I bought CIC.US last week for $505 and already paid for it. Then today I got the notice that it has been redeemed. If GoDaddy is going to have this sort of redemption period, they should at least wait to charge you until they are ready to transfer the domain. Now I have to wait for the $505 (+ renewal fee) refund, which sometimes takes much longer than the 6 days they promise.
