If you sell a domain name which is due for renewal in a month would the new buyer know this or should you tell them that make sure they renew it as it expires in a month during transfer to the buyer ?

Surely buyers and end users will get renewal notices once the domain is transferred?

When someone buys a domain, it is his DD to check everything including its expiration date.

From another hand, the buyer may be inexperienced or may just forget to check it, so it's always a good gesture from the seller to remind the buyer about this significant detail.

On NamePros, I believe there's a rule about having near expiry domain names, dated in the thread.

In general though, It's not your responsibility to notify the buyer.

That being said, in honour of a good relationship, I think you should. In fact, if it's a decent $xxx sale, why not throw in a year?

Cheers! :)

If the new buyer is buying a domain name and NOT looking at the expiration date of the name they are buying then they shouldn't be buying a domain. This is one of the most important factors that a new buyer should pay attention to. Not that it would make a difference in a purchase or not in most cases, but the buyer should be paying attention to it.

However, as for your question. Yes, the new buyer/end user/whoever will get renewal notices as long as the contact information is accurate and was changed during/after the purchase. If the contact information isn't changed then whoever is listed will get the renewal notices.

It is always a good measure to make sure that the exp. date is listed in any sale and if not, point it out to the buyer before hand so that they know where they stand.

Would a domain approaching an expiry date put off a buyer?

I guess it would depend on the name and it's value to the buyer. If it's a good name, then most of the time I think it wouldn't matter, especially if it's an end user looking to use the name as their brand.

If it's a cheap name being bought by a reseller or domainer then maybe, if it's a low end name.
