SKG,
For the first time the layman could buy a well know ending, ie .TV without paying with their house for the .com counterpart.
The fact that you said this means so much more than the truth behind it; we see and understand the same phenomenon taking place before our very eyes. I wish I made that precise point with as much clarity as you did, when I wrote my article, titled,
Late In The Dot TV Game.
Part of me feels as though we got lucky. The other part believes that we wanted our own piece of the Internet action and sufficiently researched the opportunity before jumping in, and got in on a good thing.
Either way, many of us with extensive dot tv portfolios are now waking up and facing a reality. The reality is that we must develop unless we have plenty of money stockpiled to sit and wait. I imagine all that it will take are few well-developed .tv names in the .tv sphere (or even more developed sites with rich media) for the momentum to further increase and more useful development applications to become available.
I am not an expert but, like you, my instinct tells me that we should anticipate more transactions for greater amounts in the next 10 months, but those transactions will be greatly outnumbered by the transactions for lesser amounts, particularly when you factor in all of the Non Disclosures that will be signed when high priced domains change hands. I am now requesting NDAs when I acquire a Dot TV name from a private party simply to protect my interests going forward.
I feel that we (as in the .tv community) should continue to encourage each other to develop, develop, develop. Sitting idle with a portfolio of undeveloped .tv names, big or small, does not help stimulate the growth of a domain holder's portfolio. By developing small with a blog, a forum, or a news site with compelling content, any domainer can facilitate the growth of their portfolio, especially with some of the embedding tools that allow you to feature YouTube videos.
While I am not real impressed with what WorldNetCast.com has to offer, it is a decent start at tackling something very big. My hope is that more and more of take a stab at development, which requires commitment. It also takes a consistent effort, small or large, to bring any site, whether it offers rich media or not, to come alive and come into its own.
I am learning first hand in my development experience that patience is one virtue that gets rewarded constantly as does an appreciation for what developers and designers can do for us.
I am looking forward to sharing and exchanging information with others on the forum. I would also like to encourage all .tv domainers to explore the NamePros forum and get accustomed to what is available here. There are a significant number of people that can help you with setting up a site, designing it, and optimizing it for search engines.
