 This was a total publicity ploy, from the get go, IMO. No way that the Fox censors would have approved this spot and GoDaddy counted on this, as a way of capitalizing on the hoopla surrounding the Superbowl commercials, w/o having to pop for the 30 second media buy. This was calculated on GoDaddy's part- no way that any content w/ such an obvious connection to last years Janet Jackson incident would have been approved. Anyone even w/ peripheral knowledge about the buzz surrounding that controversy and how it is impacting this years advertising, and how conservative Fox is being in their screening and selection process dor ads, would know this. Anyone investing those kind of bucks in a 30 sec spot would know this. Either that, or GoDaddy has a very uninformed and sorry ad agency.

Well, you have to admit, they got what they wanted out of posting that! We are all talking about it, and they are better off for it, so I say congrats to them for getting what they wanted done! Know the real question is, whats the real comercial?

I think this was a great publicity stunt by Bob Parson..

Just look at this thread, over 40 replies and 550+ views.. :)

They have probable got many thousands of free visitors (and customers now) from all of the free advertising online and on TV.

Unprofessional?? Maybe...
Does it work? I think so....

Most "professional" domaineers already knows about Godaddy, so I don't think they tried to target those (us) anyway.
But think of the tens of thousands (or more) who still uses their "local" domain shops, and pays $30+ per registration of .coms.
Do you really think they will continue to pay $30+ per year after they've heard about the $8.95 registration and renewal fees at Godaddy??

Way to go Bob.. :D

Giving GoDad the benefit of the doubt, I am hoping that this is one of those, "HaHa. I got ya!" jokes, ala April Fools Day, (at least, relative to those inside the domain industry), and wasn't intended to be taken at face value. Otherwise, GoDads is estimating the intelligence of domainers to be at the idiot level.
I'd give Godad an "A" for publicity stunts and ROI for it's own bottomline, and an "F" for the image they have portrayed of the domain industry, domain marketers, and their ethics, to the general public.

I'm expecting we'll see a toned-down version of the banned commercial on Sunday.

You will see our โ€œapprovedโ€ commercial with the Go Daddy Girl during the Super Bowl. It is scheduled to appear during the 4th ad break in the 1st quarter, and also during the final two minute warning. This commercial, which was approved by Fox, is milder than the one that was rejected. I think itโ€™s still funny and also gets the point across. And who knows, it might also generate a little business for GoDaddy.com.

Now you know when to look for it! There are two different spots airing now.

I can't wait to see it. :)

Reading his blog, it is also obvious that Bob Parsons is very luck to be where he is today becasue he is a very immature person.

There is an expression..."The harder you work, the luckier you get"...
Nobody that is stupid has his success & maintains his revenues...this was a planned move by GD all the way....nice move preying on the recent FCC/Fox extreme morality...I like the move...the commercial is what it is...a reason to get a lot of free publicity...getting major bang for your buck....
If it does increase the number of people who are registering names I will tip my hat...
Nah... I tip my hat anyway...GD is putting it out there..

Just my 2 dimes & a nickels worth...

Thats what it's all about :imho: I don't think people will take the content serious enough to harm the Reputation of Domainers (You've got to remember that were all Cyber Squatters in the Eyes of the General Public already ... :'( )

Fox News channel had a different GoDaddy ad they was talking about and showed. The same woman and people but her strap breaks if I seen it right...

This is pure marketing at it's finest. GD is aware that the Janet Jackson fallout was viewed censorship by a large part of the internet population. Since the cyberworld is their address, it makes sense to place an ad that they knew would be rejected and gain the publicity of that rejection to garnish support for their cause in their home court. I think they made a touch down regardless of whether the ad does well during the actual game or not and in the end will probably reach more targetted customers than the ad that does air will (when most of the people are in the bathroom from all that beer).

On another note about Superbowl Ads. They don't always bring instant recognition. There was a poll that came out after one Superbowl in which there was an ad that featured a bike rider chasing after a cheetah. When he caught the cheetah, he reached down the cat's mouth and pulled out a can of soda. The cheetah's spots were rearranged to say Do the Dew. You probably remember the commercial. But even with the slogan, at least half of the viewers didn't know it was an ad for Mountain Dew. Many thought it was Coke.

I'll say one thing for the ad if it did air. No one would have probably forgot who the ad was for, although they might not know what GD does.

Or care.. I mean, what is the demographic here and how many viewers also purchase domain names or hosting? I'll bet the actual percentage of people who even know what domains and hosting are is less than 5% of the viewership... I think the ad amounts to bragging rights myself... it certainly won't amount to more than a good lunch at the country club in increased revenue IMO.

Godaddy now ranks number two behind NSI in total registrations, and only need 2-1/2 more points (1.1 million names) to be #1. Add wild west, and they are almost there already. There are some bragging rights and clear free publicity in being the first registrar to beat NSI and also being #1.

However, they probably have a lot less name recongnition outside the domain/hosting industry. I think all they are going for is name recognition here to get some momentum toward #1. Appealing to the MTV crowd might just give them a niche that hasn't been expoited yet, particularly with the new popularity of blogging and website hosting newbies.

I always thought GoDaddy was number 1 but I guess not.

It depends on what field you consider Go Daddy to be number one.

They've promoted themselves as #1 in "new registrations", or growth in other words. Not #1 in overall names registered, yet.
