I don't think people will take the content serious enough to harm the Reputation of Domainers
I wasn't thinking that it was the content that would turn people off, so much, as the technique. But maybe my read on this is off, and people don't give a hoot about the extent to which advertisers will manipulate the media to get free publicity. People have become enured to being B/S'd by commercials, so perhaps the same can be said about publicity stunts, as well.
(You've got to remember that were all Cyber Squatters in the Eyes of the General Public already)
Hmmm... I was wondering where the quizzical expression on peoples faces, (sometimes accompanied w/ a hint of distaste), was coming from, when the topic of domain name sales would come up.:hehe:
I'm getting a sense that some are thinking that a toned down ad will run in place of the over the top one, (censorship-wise). Do you think that GoDaddy is going to pop for the $2.4 million to run a 30 sec spot, and that their scheme was not pre-planned and designed, solely, as a publicity stunt?

There is something to be said about the rooting section that the number two guy draws.

-And- if, in some way, this helps stimulate name sales, I agree w/ previous comment that this could work out well for the DN community- in sales, if not image.

Use the 2.4 million in advertising to register 1.1 million names and be the top registrar to have the most domains ;)

This was probally planned last year and they have so far made their plan a success!

Yeah ever since janet jackson they have been making commercials with "wardorbe malfunctions" to attract viewers but I have heard of 2 that have made it to the news that the fcc rejected.

Good one! Didn't enom already set a precedent for this w/ the .info regs they made to help "assist" their members?

Actually, that would make me feel better about the savvy of some of the companies that we, the domainers, are doing business with.

I like the old GoDaddy girl from a few years ago. At least she was wholesome!

Anyone else psyched about seeing a domain name company advertising during the SuperBowl? I don't even care that it probably features boob humor and they call them "dot com names" instead of domains. I still love it! :D

In cased you missed it: "It is scheduled to appear during the 4th ad break in the 1st quarter, and also during the final two minute warning."

GoDaddy is still running two spots featuring the GoDaddy girl and the censorship panel -- similar but different versions of the banned commercial.

Could be the beginning of the end of the $15+ reg fee, as we know it.

GoDaddy.com is up here...
Is that the same commercial you all linked to? In the one on the web she didnt brake a strap did she? The one they showed is the one FoxNews talked about...

Why do you pay so much for domains?

The commercial I saw during the 1st quarter was different than the rejected one--the rejected one was maybe a tiny bit racier but still the same theme.

Based on the one I saw I'd have to say that the "rejected" one was not some brilliant pre-planned marketing ploy, I think GoDaddy submitted that ad fully thinking Fox would air it. It really wasn't that much different than the ad that they actually did show.

Is that 2.4 million times 2? Or did 2.4 million buy two commercials?
