Does anyone know if certain registrars place limits on the amount of time a domain has to be held at their registry before they will allow you to transfer it to another party?

I've heard that some impose a time limit of 60 days and others allow for the transfer to take place immediately. Anyone clued up on this?

Cheers :)

always treat it as 60 days. If I remember correctly there are ICAAN restrictions on this as well now.

Also if transferring always ensure you do it withing a week of it expiring. Also regarding the 60 days some registrars will not allow a transfer for 60 days even if you just update the whois.

60 days for all the ones I'v used, you can do an internal push to someone elses account in the same registrar straight away usually.

Ok, thanks Peter.

What are the rules in terms of pushing to another account within a specific registrar? e.g. If I wanted to push a domain in a GoDaddy account to another GoDaddy account holder?

Any ideas on this one?

Some registrars do not allow pushes after it has been transferred/pushed in the last 7 days (enom for example). It just depends on the policy of the registrar

Magnifico, thank you.

Is this a universal rule?

This is no longer allowed, if a registrar is preventing your transfer based on a change to the whois you can file a TDRP. We just did this and won! The panel clearly said that changes to the whois do not represent expressed written objection to the transfer and registrars cannot deny transfers based on whois changes regardless of what ridiculous terms they have added to their terms of service.

all you should need to do is contact the registrar and threaten to file a TDRP if they do not allow your transfer. If you have to file a TDRP when you file you can also request that the registrar pay your filling fees as we did.

I believe they are even though ICANN says they cannot. I hear if you contact them to complain they will release the lock and allow the transfer, if they don't, file a TDRP

Cheers for the info RM.

I personally hate the idea of not being able to change something that we are REQUIRED to keep updated and be forced not to transfer. Glad to see that can be worked around.

7 and 60 days are critical days do your "test" pushes in those days, if it comes thru then you hit it.
