Hi,

I just saw that the site 7starhandbags dot com is down, checking the whois its show on-hold (generic) (registrar Webnic.cc)

This site was running since so many years (site selling replica).

So my question is if the registrar did hold the domain name or what ?

It's indeed possible that the registrar put the name on hold, effectively deactivating it. This could be for legal reasons, complaints etc.

what type of complains that will lead the registrar to hold the domain ? if it is an online shop ... ?

what type of complains that registrars take seriously to hold your domain ?

lets say i have a blog, and i am criticizing and reviewing products and company services.... what will happen if those product owners send complains to the registrar .. stating that their product image is being ruined by a domain or website which is hosted under that registrar ?

any idea or thoughts some one can share ?

I suppose if the store was selling illegal goods for example Windows XP, Microsoft could get in touch with the registrar.

Or maybe its in fact the domain that is wrong, not the site itsef.

I believe the digital millenium information act, if a company complains to a registrarthat a particularwebsite is infringing upon their copyrightsot trademarks, the registrar/host is obligated to suspend that website/domain. It is upto the owner to clear things upand get proofs etc.

Thanks for clearing that up for us Vigi :)

This could be due to spam complaints. Now some registrars/webhosts are very quick when it comes to taking action, sometimes even without investigating the validity of the claims.

Windows XP and Vista should both be made illegal :):bingo:

Occasionally, registrars will end up with a name registered with a fraudulent charge, bad check or unpaid account too.

Sometimes "proxy registration" or "whois privacy" registrations may just not look like a proxy in the whois.

On the other hand, some registrars actively speculate on names and get away with it even though they aren't supposed to.

looking at the site (cache), it is most probably being put on hold due to legal dispute. Otherwise, Registrar has not right to simply hold a domain. Good and responsible registrar to take prompt action!

I have had a couple of valuable domains I failed to renew, which I noticed were then "on hold" (Godaddy).

On a similar note, what happens when conficting doamin registra's offer a site for sale and the other does not.I just checked a domain in sedo and it said it was available,I went to godaddy to buy it,said it was taken.I checked the whois database and found it has less than 1 month to go before it expires.I then went back to sedo and its still available through them.Should I buy it or not?

If they receive a valid legal complaint or if the domain name is used for phishing etc it's certainly their right and duty to hold the domain :)
