Registrar hold? Doubt

Created: 1998-02-05
Expires: 2005-02-04
Status: REGISTRAR-HOLD



How is this possible?. The domain expires only on 2005, but its status shows as Registrar-hold. Does this mean that the owner failed to pay for this domain.

I come across several domains like this.

REGISTRAR-HOLD: The sponsoring registrar sets this status. The domain can not be modified or deleted. The registrar must remove REGISTRAR-HOLD status to modify the domain. The domain can be renewed. The domain will not be included in the zone.

So basically the owner let the name expire and the Registry automatically renewed it in case the owner decides to pay in the 30-day grace period.
