If anyone is doing client domain registering how does your business process work and what are best practices?

I am working with a couple of people who want new domains but are clueless about how to register a domain. Do you walk them through as a courtesy or do you charge a service fee and give them the account details?

Some registrars have a reseller scheme so that you can consolidate several client accounts and get bulk pricing.

Personally I just manage a few domains for clients so I have set up a dedicated account so their domains are not mixed with mine and they have the passwords in case I disappear :]
I think it is good practice so they know they won't be held hostage and will be more confident in their dealings with you.
Make sure you register the domains in THEIR name, but you can put your details for the other contact records (technical, billing, admin). If they attempt to do a transfer (for example because their hosting company suggests so) for example you will be notified and this will avoid them mistakes.

Personally I sell domains at cost because I make money on other consultancy services, basically it's up to you as long as you make a profit somewhere.
